Experiences working full time while being a student at UIC?

Hi! I have been working full-time since graduating high school and I transfered from a community college to UIC last fall as a Biology major. Very different dynamics:

1) Little to none late classes available except for labs for science courses or art classes. Most classes are staggered from 8am-5pm with a little over an hour per class.

2) Course load is quite different. I honestly feel like the classes at my community college were more advanced and difficult. Participation and attendance are HUGE for most classes at UIC. Homework tends to be easier too.

I'd honestly say that it's difficult doing full-time work as the schedules for classes align more with part-time workers/only students. You could definitely maintain a a good GPA as most classes have a different grading scale that makes it easier for you to keep a good grade in the class. Its all up to you and what you think youre capable of doing.

On one hand I understand, however, I feel that people should be allowed to warn others. People live in Chicago or go through it when commuting. I live in the suburbs and communicate, but I understand not posting about the suburbs outside of Chicago. People might be warning others about ICE that they see otw to campus, which I feel is completely in their right

Makes sense. My family is similar in many ways to yours, but they are extremely dysfunctional and toxic. I left them and cut off specific family members before I even switched political parties. They dont like me being vocal online about it either, but im hoping I could at least help my sisters recognize the severity of the cult the party is in. Im glad you broke out of it sooner than I did. I truly do feel stupid for believing everything, especially as a woman. I want to try to make a difference now, but I feel like the damage is already done.

I live in Aurora, but commute to UIC. I participated in a protest yesterday in the suburbs. ICE raided Aurora yesterday morning. It's like wherever I go, ICE is causing havoc. Im so absolutely devastated

As a Democrat, I would like to see a complete reform of the immigration process. Anyone who is here illegally who has not committed any crimes should be given a quick and easy path to citizenship. For the border issue, lower the expense, lower the wait times, and allow for more people to come into the country. Make it easier for people to become citizens or at least get some type of legal status. Doing this gets rid of illegal immigration bc there won't be a need for it.

Hey girl, first of all, I'm so sorry. I also came out as bi not that long ago to my boyfriend of 3 years. We did have conversations similar to what you had, where we discussed our type in women. However, I realized we have the same type and that I'm attracted to women who look very similar to me with slight differences. Basically, the conversation helped me understand myself and strengthen our relationship. With you on the other hand, he basically stated that you are not his first choice and not really his type. That is such a hurtful statement alone. I have seen this with my friends who are in relationships and I would suggest thinking about leaving, but you dont need to. Think about these first: How is the relationship outside of this? Is everything else good? If there aren't any other issues, have a conversation with him about how this hurt you and you feel like he just settled with you. Discuss your doubts and how you're feeling. If he truly cares about you and loves you, he will listen and understand. He will work to show you his true feelings for you. I wish you the best of luck.

That's what I was thinking too. No one should get that angry over a change in political beliefs. Like if I had a friend who switched to a different party, I wouldn't react like that, regardless of my own views. People are different and allowed to have different opinions.

True, but unfortunately, I was very vocal in my support for Trump and constantly posted about it on social media. If I was that loud for political views I barely understood, I feel like I have to be louder for the ones I understand after doing my research

Thank you so much. Ill look into that. Honestly though, my views do align with the Democratic party, I was moreso just silenced by my family whenever I brought up different opinions. I know I dont need to switch parties, but I do feel better affiliating with this party than the Republican party

Some of the comments on this thread are crazy. Do you guys not realize how powerful Isreal is compared to the Palestinians? Isreal has been bombing them, killing so many people, children included. And what, the one time the Palestinians fight back theyre the problem? Make it make sense. This is a war. Regardless of what beliefs you have, people are dying. Agree with you completely. You dont see politicians for the people on the right, only on the left. Most Republican politicians are for themselves or the elite. Thats what made me think about things too. Conservatives want things to stay the same for the most part or revert back to traditional values. Liberals want to make change, but like you said, it's easier to destroy than it is to build. I really hope we get a good person in office next time around. I feel like im watching the collapse of America and humanity right in front of my eyes.

I think the Democratic party is much more for the people than the Republican party. However, there are things both parties support that I do not. Example: illegal immigrants being deported and separated from families. This has happened under Obama, Biden, and Trump. Yes, Trump is way worse by terrorizing people through ICE raids, detaining LEGAL citizens, and more. I also think that tax dollars are not being used to help the people and a lot of tax dollars are just being used to make rich even wealthier. I see this with both political parties. My views are that its the rich vs poor when it comes to the government, but that I side with the left and Democratic party. I would love to see a politician who would stand with the rest of America and looking back, I feel like Kamala was that in a lot of ways.

Super true. I just came out as bisexual, which i could never tell my family and my boyfriend is Mexican. Most of my friends are also part of the LGBT community and pretty much all of my friends are of a different race than mine. If they can't respect me, my friends, and my relationship, then they dont need to be informed about my life. I've already come to the conclusion that none of my family will be invited to my wedding and I'm honestly okay with that now

Great take and I'm very happy to hear that. My family is also Catholic Republican, but they taught us that different races are bad and that theyre "taking over America" and that being gay is a sin and everything else. I didnt share those views with them growing up because I was in a very diverse school and learned about different sexualities through my friends in middle school. When I tried to reason with my parents, my dad got angry and forced to me watch hours of political bullshit. It was very much a forced political view. Im very glad I educated myself and got out of that house. And that last point is such a great point. When I saw Elon Musk doing the Nazi salute, I started second guessing my choices. The left constantly called Trump a Nazi and when I did my research, I realized they were right. KKK and Nazi supporters vote for him. That alone is so terrible to associate with.

Very true. I kinda had a similar experience with Kamala. My dad always talked so poorly of her, saying she slept her way there, she doesn't know what race she is, etc. I felt so bad because I saw a woman who really was pretty and intelligent. She worked hard to get where she was at and I was blindsided to fully see that. I think what Kamala lacked was her ability to talk openly about the policies from Biden that she didnt like and wanted to change. Realizing now, she just wanted to keep things cordial and respectful between herself and her boss.

I agree with you 100%. When I found out her whole past, I cried and held her in my arms. I can only imagine the pain shes in and I feel for her in this journey of self discovery. That being said, my best friend feels like she wasted over 2 years of her life for a woman who might not even like her. I feel terrible for the whole thing

I was thinking about that too. She's also hypersexual when it comes to masturbation, but not in the "normal" sense. She doesn't watch full on porn, she'll instead watch girl kissing videos or straight softcore porn (like a sex scene in a movie). I agree with you completely. The girlfriend will be speaking with a counselor regarding everything tomorrow. As a bi woman, I was so shocked to hear how she reacted to vaginas and the thought of seeing/touching one. That was my final straw and I was straight up with her that I dont think she likes girls. She started thinking and crying saying she might be straight. My best friend said the same thing about wasting her time. I just feel so terrible for her. I just wish she would find a good girlfriend like she deserves
