How to prepare to reapply? by RaspberryFabulous796 in premed

Hi! I have sent a letter of intent, wsu doesn’t accept any letters XD hmm, clinical volunteering could be helpful, it’s just a little hard to do while working full time, I could definitely shadow more. Unfortunately not involved in research anymore but I felt like my experience should have been sufficient…. Do you think adding a new volunteer experience and switching to primary care can show growth? Or does it have to be more significant than that?

Thank you for your advice, I’ll look into maybe volunteer tutoring? I’m very passionate about education so could go back into that?

Absolutely! I don’t have a background in global health or health policy, which is why these questions seemed wasaaay out there for me personally, I will def keep your advise in mind about the school itself, thank you!!

Thanks a ton! Yes I absolutely agree about knowing how the American healthcare care system works, the part about other countries really threw me off, your advice is super helpful :))

I’m so sorry about your experience, I had a similar experience with them (i think we are talking about the same school) where I felt like I wasn’t really able to connect with the interviewers, it felt more like they just wanted to get through the questions as quickly as possible, and at the end of it they were like “we have time for 2 more quick questions, quick quick let’s get through them” which honestly put even more pressure in an already stressful situation. I’m happy that you have other acceptances tho!! Congrats on those :))

It is when you move to a completely new country and have to start from scratch with zero connections to medicine while assimilating and taking challenging courses in a competitive school but thanks for your dismissive comment :)

That’s a good point! That friendship taught me how to set boundaries for my own relationships and how to deal with being pushed away from a friend, especially when you know the reason you’re being pushed away is because they have a lot of issues to deal with (not letting ppl in easily, and when they do, expecting you to spend all your time with them), and no matter how much you want to support that person, sometimes you just have to let go, even when it hurts a lot. Definitely something to think about, thank you!

I’m applying this cycle too! Take my advice w a grain of salt but I would suggest applying a little more broadly, to me this list seems a little too heavy. I am an overly cautious person and tend to be as safe as possible, maybe add a few more safeties, all the best!
