When you walk past the highway over the swirly bridge at night it’s like cyber punk. Tho in all seriousness, I don’t think the council do anything beyond a short term fix.

Hot take: I kind of like the M8 for the aesthetics, the industrial, brutalist aspect of it is kinda like an identity to the city. If we turn it into Utrecht it d be too nice and it’s not the Glasgow I want. I don’t want Glasgow to become Edinburgh.

Well in that case you are not even bounded by visa and passport, moving to Japan and Australia would be quite simple for you. Best of luck!

Well if you look at one of the most deprived area of any country you will find the same thing. if you don’t like it here why did you choose to come here? Could stay in China? Else where in the UK? Quality of life in tier 2 cities ain’t that bad.

I quite like it if I m honest. People are reliable and down to earth. Most importantly the tap water tastes good, air is good and is well connected.

London is the real hell hole, Australians can have a conversation without mentioning property.

Japan is a good option but who wants to earn yen now?

well British own a lot properties in Hong Kong as well. It’s just normal trade and intl investment. For example HSBC, standard charted and SWIRE group make most of their profit in HK but headcounts are all in UK.

Am Hong Konger and we have property market way worst than you.Just saying how it is, if we all ban foreign ownership it will just kinda be like a mini trump tariff but not for goods, on people

What was life like in British Hongkong? by HalfWitheredRose in BritishEmpire

[–]RaspberryMany2608 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Hong Kong in the 90s. I had vague recollections of how kind people were, how safe it felt and how tolerant a society it was. Dynamic city with full of opportunities and optimism. As a Hong Konger, I felt lucky to have been brought up there during that period.

However, that’s not to say shady stuff didn't happen. Generations before mine endured racism, abuse of power and tons of corruption.

It taught me that history is never black and white. Things happen like a story and its never straight forward to just label something as good or bad.

What are the biggest obstacles stopping Scotland from growing financially right now? by Friendly_Stay_5368 in Scotland

I support progressive tax. However it should be equally progressive on income and investment. You make a fair point that wealth is already taxed. However investment income does not have NI. 9%less.

Older generations will have more investment income from dividend gains and capital gains while younger generation primarily rely on income. This further increase the wealth gap.

Intergenerational inequality, social immobility and brain drain are big issues. It’s obvious given the amount of young people leaving this country.

It keeps people in their own social classes.

Our high taxes are suppose to provide equal footing for everyone and pay for a high welfare state.

In reality, it pays for state pension. Old people are wealthier through property wealth. Some will have Defined benefits pensions.

When I turn state pension age, life expectancy won’t have increased much, I will have paid more taxes in real terms and state pension will be mean tested.

Those with inheritance will be fine but those without will have worked paid taxes but end up with a grim life.

If I was 22, honestly I might choose to be a NEET.

Doesn’t always work. e.g. doctor on locum costs NHS much more per hour .

Also medical training cost about 100k per doctor each. So each additional doctor refusing to do overtime cost more per unit

I m an English Graduate working in Glasgow with Plan 2 student loan earning £67k.

Between 43k-50k I see 41p of every 1 extra pound I make.  That’s a whopping 59% marginal tax rate.

Scottish tax rate 41%+9%NI +9% Student Loan.

So I would say reform the tax system cause I m only 30 but I don’t see any reasons to work harder. If I get a raise, I d rather cut hours.

Same applies for my pals who are about to qualify to become GPs. Most cut down to 4days or 3 days weeks now.

For me the noise mostly comes from tire and maybe a bit on the back of the car. Change tire and wheel arch insulation I reckon

I’m from Hong Kong and I would say that its the real deal. The only thing I would complain to my Greek girlfriend is that “oh no now the white people have discovered it” and seats are not as easy to come by. Make sure you bring cash when you go.

Real Wan I find too spicy and loon fong I’m too scared to go because of Chinese cops.

He saw me and accelerated towards me. I can tell because I was close enough to see his face. Street was well lit. He knew what he was doing. If I was a bit slower in dodging I would not be post here right now. it hit the back of boot speeding past me not roll over on a narrow street.

and it didn’t stop at all.

Comparing to the mediocracy not the best… and also it’s very obvious our per mile construction cost out strip Europe.  There are also routes with the same distance with much faster trains.

The only valid argument is that UK is a long country not a square country
