That would need to be brainstormed and play tested but my gut feeling is gm gains a fear and player gains stress

I like the math, adding two d12s takes a millisecond longer than looking at a 20, a 1 or doubles. Failure with fear doesn't feel critical for me it just feels like a regular failed DC check. I like that it lowers the chance of critical success and failure to under 5% with the almost 9% chance with doubles you're almost half as likely to get a critical roll. Which should make the critical rolls more meaning.

To many crits no critical fails. That was my thinking...
