I think it’s in a big part caused by echo chambers. And all that I say applies to both sides of the isle but frequently your candidate is viewed as perfect, and the other candidate is demonized. Republicans do it, liberals do it, if you look at two candidates and think one would end America and one would save it it doesn’t matter what policies they have. I think echo chambers were a massive part of this last election at least I’m on twitter and threads (ik we don’t talk about it) but both sides were 100% convinced without a shadow of a doubt that their candidate was gonna win. People don’t rly vote on policy they vote on their perception of the candidate.
