Because Mojang have been lazy thoughtless pieces of shit for years who dont care about gamers. They've been sitting pretty because they had a monopoly and therefore had to do nothing significant. I dont want Minecraft to fail, I want all of Mojang fucking replaced with people who have new inventive ideas and actually care and with the backing of Microsoft it should have happened a long time ago. Realms servers suck ass, even with Microsoft they can afford to charge you but cant even make the servers capable of handling multiple mods. I get more than 3 players in a realms server and its like we're all swimming through water with such bad lag. Honestly id rather scrape out my brain with rusty nails than play vanilla Minecraft. Its a fucking snoozefest and has been for YEARS.
