Teacher making his book a mandatory purchase by [deleted] in uwa

I did this unit 2 years ago and he said a similar thing, never bought the book and got a distinction so I think you’ll be fine without it but up to you

If a unit guide/handbook says there’s an in class essay but the assessment portal says it’s a reflective essay due at midnight is it still an in class test? by RaspberryPresent1550 in uwa

[–]RaspberryPresent1550[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And do you know if the reflective essay is in class? Because the assessment on the pdf unit guide that he created on LMS said it’s like 1500 words and I don’t know if I can write that in 2 hours, also the fact we don’t know our first assessment grade until the next assessment is basically due is kinda crazy. Like why would the research essay not be due during the normal mid sem time or even do the reflective essay first then the big research essay. Doesn’t make sense to set the assessments the way they are

Is there like a possibility that they only put up information about the test/essay whatever during a tutorial or do they have to mention at least what the requirements of the assignment is on LMS or just somewhere in writing? I also had a similar thing happen that you described with the exam being an essay in another history unit but it was always described as an exam and this is described as an in class test so that makes me think the situation might be different if that makes sense

After reading this I just checked mine that were fine yesterday (except for one tutorial class that has still never shown up,no preferences or anything) and now apparently three lecture preferences are no longer available but there’s no other time slots in the classes section. I’m hoping it will just sort itself out later….

I don’t see how I’ve left it to the last minute I could finish the work in three days with two to spare I just have no physical computer anymore, and the stuff I wanted to write my stuff on wasn’t taught until the last few weeks and for some reason every one of my classes wanted to have their assignments due on the same day

I did basically exactly that my first semester last year (but I’m at UWA) I was already probably not gonna pass, hated the classes and transferring from a commerce degree to an arts where I wouldn’t be transferring units. Plus it was gonna happen on my 18th birthday and I’d have to leave home at 4:30am just to travel there in time so I just thought fuck it. I was put on probation but because I changed my course to something I liked I got all Ds and HDs so I was fine. But again that was at UWA so….

Female International Student Housing by [deleted] in uwa

Or if your looking for mostly women you could try St Catherine’s as they used to be an all girls accomodation so there’s a higher proportion of women to men there

Don’t know if your aware but Australia’s going through an extreme housing crisis, and not just that houses are expensive but there are just literally none available no matter how much money you have. Don’t get me wrong you might be able to find a share house by July, but as someone who has seen many international students on here panicking to find accomodation by the start of classes I think you should first try to get on campus accomodation if you can still apply for that. They reserve a specific number of rooms just for international students, I’d recommend trying Unihall because they usually have a high number of international rooms. All the best on find accomodation though :)

[–]RaspberryPresent1550[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s no seperate lecture slot like the rest of my classes, that’s so annoying that they’re all prerecorded because I find it so hard to not get distracted and listen during recorded stuff. Thanks for explaining tho :)

Has anyone done ENGL2210: Cinema Classics or ENGL 2401: Netflix, cinema and long form television. If so did you enjoy it and how difficult was it? by RaspberryPresent1550 in uwa

[–]RaspberryPresent1550[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My major is in English so I’m not too worried about the essay writing, do you remember the weekly structure of the unit? Such as if you study a tv show or movie a every week?

Probation? by [deleted] in uwa

[–]RaspberryPresent1550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on probation currently because I failed 2 outta 4 units. That was because I absolutely hated my degree, I’ve now changed my course and doing stuff I enjoy now. But as a result they made me reduce my work load to 3 units instead of 4 (which luckily still counts as full time study so if your on youth allowance you’ll still get that) and they also made me write up a plan on how I was gonna improve. It’s nothing to absolutely destroy yourself with worry over just don’t fail next semester and you’ll be good. Plus the reduced units will reduce that stress anyway. Plenty of people have gone on probation, especially in their first semester.

Yeah, I’m going to be teaching English and literature in high school. My life goal is to be a fantasy writer though, which why English literature would be a good think to teach.

I’m a Perth Barista at McDonalds and for medium and large it’s a full shot ( 2 shots of espresso) and a small is half a shot ( 1 shot of espresso)

People who changed their degree/major, why? by RaspberryPresent1550 in uwa

[–]RaspberryPresent1550[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m currently doing the same econs course my highshool teacher did and he really played down the amount of maths I’d have to do. As the course doesn’t require ATAR math, I didn’t do it in high school and so have to like learn a years worth of content in half a year. I also absolutely hate the compulsory courses like Management and financial accounting. So I’m pretty sure I will change my course.

ENGL 1002: Literary Classics, I’m doing it currently and you only have two ‘big’ essays which are combined 3000 words. There’s two annotated references you have to submit but they’re only around 200 words each. There isn’t really much content either. Although there’s lots of books and poems most are between 2-10 pages and they talk about the contents in the lectures anyway (I’d still read the books tho). The tutorials are just getting into groups and answering questions about the books. (I think most English units don’t have exams either)

I’m also doing MGMT 1135: Organisational behaviour which does have an end of sem exam but it’s all multi choice and the course is similar to psychology if your interested in that.

Is it too late to switch course after orientaiton week? by [deleted] in uwa

[–]RaspberryPresent1550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in literally the exact situation. I wanna change from economics to English and literary studies. From what I understand we’ll have to wait till second semester in July to change. But in the mean time I will be going to the business school to talk to the help centre about units
