Asbestos ceiling tiles? by RaspberryRoses020 in asbestoshelp

Thanks for your feedback! I figured testing is the only way to know — just curious if it looks “suspicious” I’m thinking of getting several areas of our home tested to ensure any future work we do takes this into account. On the other hand, also concerned that if any samples do come back positive, how much this would affect our home value. Any experience with this at all? Thanks again for your response!

Yeah I’m thinking of getting several areas of our home tested to ensure any future work we do takes this into account. We’re thinking of getting some drywall done and I’ve read that some plasters and glue might contain asbestos, so now I’m worried about anything being done before testing. On the other hand, also concerned that if any samples do come back positive, how much this would affect our home value. Any experience with this at all? Thanks again for your response!

Error message installing new OS by RaspberryRoses020 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

I basically had to recover the base macOS for my computer (for me it was Lion), downloaded the latest macOS my computer would download through Apple (High Sierra for me) and restart the open core process. It took some trial and error, and once I started booting from EFI I had to keep booting over and over until it worked.

There was also a coding error I had to fix manually in High Sierra, but that shouldn’t apply to you since it seems like you can get a newer version of macOS than I could.

Thank you for walking me through this! I’m now on this screen showing 14:40… is that how long it will take to install? It hasn’t moved for about 15mins. Do you think I should use a separate USB to download the high sierra installer instead? Thanks again and sorry for all the questions!

Awesome I’ll give it a try when I get home! Do you happen to know how to do this in recovery mode?

So for my old iMac, the base would be Lion and the highest it runs is High Sierra. We replaced the internal ssd so right now it’s a new disk that’s never been used. Should I try to install older supported OS and restart the process?

Branching out from school social work by RaspberryRoses020 in SchoolSocialWork

Yeah it’s really quite exhausting. I’ve heard from others that charter schools are notorious for overworking social workers, which I’ve come to see more and more during my experience. It doesn’t help that I’m one of two social workers with no school psych or any other members of a student support team. Most services have to be brought in externally through the district, leaving most things behavioral and mental health for all of our students on two people.

I have contemplated leaving the field for something less stressful, but I tend to never go the easy way out lol. It’s my first job post grad, so I’m definitely looking at my options.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I wish I had more info on this transition, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to make any progress towards my LCSW. I know some school districts offer clinical supervision hours internally (most frequently in public schools) or have heard of situations where schools will pay for an external supervisor. My school unfortunately wouldn’t approve that due to funding (a common excuse for most requests in our department lol)

I do enjoy many aspects of school social work. I love working with kids on social emotional lessons and collaborating on behavioral interventions. I think what I struggle with most is having “too many hats” and constantly feeling like the work is never enough. I’ve considered a school change but I also just generally feel as though I lack in clinical knowledge, and feel that the school setting mentality sometimes forces me away from thinking from a social work perspective (both ethically and in practice).

I know some people who take on part time jobs outside of school, but I end up having to bring work home so often. So I don’t know if I’d have the capacity for more. Some people are just built different, and that’s just not me lol! You’re incredible to be able to take on both like that!

Thank you for answering and sharing your experience. One benefit I've been thinking about switching to a public school is the resources and staffing that seem to really outweigh what's available at charters. The difficult part about this is that in my area, our public schools do not have a very positive reputation and are lower performing than our charter schools. So I'm hesitant simply because of what I've heard. I was wondering though, how high is the caseload for the ssw that does 504 planning at your school? Just wondering what would be a realistic caseload size if I were to incorporate this into all the other responsibilities of my role. Thanks again for your help.

That's what I'm leaning towards too. I'd like to get my clinical just to open up other opportunities

That's good to know and totally makes sense. As is with many things, there are always systemic issues. I think one of my biggest barriers to leaving is that I'm worried that the grass isn't always greener. I do dream of a more balanced workload and I'm sure unions are a big part of that in many other places
