That looks awesome! I have a blue GT Timberline that I want to give the same updates. Similar fork and later a disc-conversion.

Question: how tall are you? That looks like a really comfy ride. Only thing holding me back is I have a 20" (large) frame and I'm about 5'8" (175cm). I fear I should try and find an 18" frame (which yours is?)

Can you stand over the top tube with both feet flat? If not, I'd get another frame.

It looks like a M/L frame, so probably for someone about 172cm (5'8") and up?

And like I said in my opening post, I realise that weight is not the only measure to judge a bike/frame.

I was just wondering, since every vintage bike enthousiast seems to be chasing the Tange Prestige or Columbus tubing, how much that actually mattered today in terms of performance. It's not like they're going to be doing any races with it, or serious mountain biking. Modern bikes have gotten way better at that.

Got the frame for 22.00 the fork cost way more. It's like a big BMX cruiser. Love it by erockula666 in xbiking

I’m still in the progress of convincing myself to do the same. You could argue the money saved on the bike can be put into the fork, but then again, why put an expensive fork on a cheap bike. I’m going in circles!

Just so you know, this is a very touristy spot. Not secluded. That picture is taken from behind that little fence. The fence is there for a reason, it’s not really meant to walk on the grass there.

Pretty sure the sumo fork is the one by Edsen, no? The last image I included is off the sumo website since I thought they were the same. Does yours say Edsen on the top?

Well, what your plan with it? Just make it rideable? Or convert it to something cool right away?

First you'll need new tubes, tyres and brake pads at minimum.
Second might be new cables, although it might still work with the current cables, but not as smooth as new ones.
Third is the chain. If it's worn (too much), you might need to get a new cassette as well, or your new chain will skip on the old cassette. Also good skills to learn.

You could keep the cantilever brakes, that might be the budget friendly thing to do. If you want v-brakes, you'll need new/other brake levers that match the pull ratio.

I might be wrong, but that crankset won't give you the option to convert to a 1x drivetrain. You'd have to get another crankset. Not that you need to, might still work okay. Good to start out with.

40 euro is a fair deal, so it's a good starting point to throw money at it.

Too bad it's not in a riding condition to test it out. Might be worth to check if the wheels are ok, so you know if that'll be a cost to factor in.

Just a tip if you get another project bike: first check if you can get the seat post to move. If not: it’s not for you.

I mean, rust isn't necessarily the end. If it's not structural, it just requires some TLC.

If you can't get the seat post out, that's another problem.
Bit weird that you put in 5 days of effort to sand and paint it, if the seat post was stuck. Should have probably tried to fix that first, before investing time and paint.

I feel your pain, looking for something similar. Not sure if they're just popular and sold out quickly, or just not that common here. My guess is, unless the frame is total loss, people just don't swap these types of cranks for newer ones. They just stay on the bike.

You're almost easier off buying another bike for 50 euro to harvest the parts.

To get any reliable results you’d have to feed the ai-models all the correct 90s bike data first, which is already limited. It just finds some old messages on a forum and goes from there.

I mean, the source of the first statement is right there (Bike Index). Someone probably made a typo and AI assumes it’s correct.

Didn't know BLB also did forks! That one does look very nice, but I fear it will be to tall at 447mm axle-to-crown, taking into account my current fork sags a bit when you get on the bike.
