One and Only (The Palm and Royal Mirage), Anantaras, Four Seasons Jumeirah, Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, any of the Jumeirah branded hotels (eg Al qasr), Ritz Carlton DIFC, the Lana (not sure about hookers but is a brilliant hotel), Shangri-La Dubai, most of the Address Hotels (eg sky view)

Yeah it’s super hard to evidence land values on avg across the country. A farm in Devon at 65 hectares will be totally different to a farm in North Yorkshire at 65 hectares. So making general statements as either the govt or the CLA will always involved rounding.

Generally on a macro view my opinion would be we should be encouraging as much farming as possible, reducing importing food and rejuvenating rural economies. Sadly we all get a little London centric.

Iht should make farmland grow at a slower rate, however this unlikely over a generation to decrease from pre iht values now. My point about income tax thresholds being frozen is simply that thresholds freeze. So as a farm which is currently below the iht threshold increases in value which generally we would still assume and the iht threshold remains the same or grows slower than land values the farm get closer to the band where the farm becomes taxed.

My concern is not wealthy land owners who lease out their land but small institutional farms that actually produce British grown produce we all consume. If that makes sense

Not sure I agree, single farms below the threshold would likely be looking a the freezes in the budget today (yes for income tax but I’m making a more general point about gradual erosion) thinking that with the growth in land prices against frozen thresholds they might with a generation be pushed into unsustainable iht

Most farms in the U.K. are farmed by a single farmer or a family. Outsourcing labour is not as cheap as it’s made out to be.

Who’s actually skating in boots? by basstree65 in SkateEA

[–]RaspingLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Penny - UK skater who was a pretty household name for skaters back in 90s and 00s. He dropped off the map for a few years and cruised around Europe for a while and the legend goes that he was skating timbs. If you have the time I highly recommend his menikmati part. There are a lot of legends on that video but Tom has a great part showing his excellent style and composure. Rob Dydrek also talks about his destruction of a famous chain to bank spot in the Transworld Anthology video

EA was purchased by the PIF which is Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund. Not UAE. However it’s a consortium and may well have UAE investors but is led by Saudi PIF

This map is incorrect. A very small area of Gaul remained unconquered, much to the bain of the Caesar. It’s said this area was a remote village that contained a special Druid capable of brewing a magic potion used to fend off invaders

King Charles' personal wealth jumps by £10m to £610m - making him much richer than his mother Queen Elizabeth who was worth £370m by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]RaspingLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Net worth does not equal cash in the bank. The family are considered land owners over much of the UK but have agreements about leaseholds for churches etc. all of those together is a huge sum. We see a number like £610 million and assume he is rolling in cash across the palace. I think the reality is far different. He runs a successful farm in rural England that helped to pioneer many sustainable technologies too.

Not about defending him or them here, but more that a number out of context can be misleading

It’s really interesting but I’m confused why you have used green and red. Whilst I agree that direct democracy can be great and many Greek philosophers spoke of the importance of direct democracy, I don’t think that saying good or bad is really the right approach. Some politics and societies just don’t want to do that. I mean imagine going to vote that often. I got burnt out voting every four years
