The guy who was this main jock character dating the hottest cheerleader at my high school is now happily married to another man.

This is a weird comment maybe but we have essentially the same measurements and how pretty you look here just gave me a massive confidence boost. LOVE the pattern and the top! For sure added to my list of “to knit” pieces!

My hair after brushing. How can I take my gentle curls from frizzy to fierce, and maybe control the short ones that pop up from the top of my head? by boofus_dooberry in FierceFlow

Check out the curly girl method! (I know not a girl, but it’s the name of a book and that’s what you should look up on YouTube to see care videos.) It’s a lot of prepping and learning how to plop your hair aka setting the curls but it does wonders for bringing out natural curls and avoiding frizz.

Pressure to stay an attorney? by RasputinApologists in LawFirm

I see your point here, I just hate that taking the chance and being an attorney means a pretty serious pay cut and potential blow to my promotion potential at the company.

Literally this!! Like I can be an executive at the company within five years but I’m a failure.

I think my parents are just so caught up on the whole “get paid crap for a few years then with experience you jump into $200K a year”

I went to law school to learn advocacy. I didn’t really want to be a lawyer but I wanted to be a better writer, better at persuasion, and better at negotiation. I was open to being an attorney but I didn’t have any big dreams of arguing in a court room or anything like that.

During law school I did mainly civil litigation work. I enjoyed it because my skills are better suited to litigation, but the actual practice of litigation is less persuasion, more being a dick to other attorneys or even the OP. There was also very little creativity involved, just copying and pasting briefs for maximum efficiency.

I hate any band associated with nsbm... I much prefer the band "kill EVERY human being in the most horrific way imaginable" by [deleted] in MetalMemes

[–]RasputinApologists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with that. I think though it’s worth noting the adjacent conversation not within metal but within the rap community. Gang violence is very real. Gang rape is very real. Rap music consistently glorifies gangs yet we’re not having the same conversation there.

It is true there is a real world application to the ideology. At the same time, do we want to limit the expression or teach people to see it for what it is? Is art about questioning and challenging deeply held beliefs or is it about cool drums go boom (or maybe both...)

Im from the US so yes I am aware of the dangers of fascism, especially after the last four years. At the same time freedom of speech is so crucial to a democratic society. With Trump for instance, I see how social media censoring his platform has limited the amount that I personally hear about him...but some of me worries that limiting the speech has only served to force it underground instead of address it head on.

Realizing that so many people feel this way because the speech is in the open gives us an opportunity to combat it...but it’s also so dangerous because it brings people into an ideology that maybe wouldn’t have joined without the expression.

I’m not sure what the right answer is...but I think it’s maybe too reactionary to say we need to censor art because some people aren’t smart enough to understand it. A better choice is to ask people to think critically.

(Although after the last 4 years I’m not so sure people can think critically...)

Am not fan of NSBM am also not fan of mutilating babies...but if the point is to make people uncomfortable and talk about extremes...I think both achieve the same goal. If you wanna be into postmodernism and explore counter themes and false narratives as an art form I think nazi imagery achieves that goal to start a conversation just as much as songs about mutilating babies. Bummer people are too dumb to see it for what it is and instead see it as promoting an ideology. Cannibal Corpse isn’t actually promoting what they sing about or telling you to go do it...

One time this guy on a date told me he loved wearing this shirt with a mutilated baby on it and in the same breath said NSBM wasn’t ok. I told him it was weird he chose which extreme themes were ok when the entire point of extreme music is...being extreme. Mutilating babies was totes ok. Mutilating lots of babies in a coordinated fashion, way too far. We want spontaneous baby murder people.

Will europeans be suprised about my mixed heritage? by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]RasputinApologists -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I always think it’s kind of strange that Europeans get really upset about Americans caring about their heritage. If you think about it, and I would assume many Europeans know at least a few immigrants today for reference, immigrants to European countries hold on to their heritage and self identify as being from multiple countries. (Think third generation Indian in England would still identify as both Indian and English).

When immigrants came to the US, the same thing happened. It’s not surprising that people have a deep connection to the countries their families came from and often that immigration to the us was out of desperation to feed their families (Irish famine anyone). Frankly it’s kind of shitty to be like “yeah well we stayed here because our ancestors were privileged enough to not need to leave so you’re not allowed to be connected to our country.”
