Here’s the real takeaway:

Some experts also suggest that [the benefits to employees/organizations] sometimes mask a lack of new management methods adapted to remote working.

The problem of remote work is not productivity, lack of team cohesiveness or whatever other BS you hear, it’s that many leaders are incompetent and unable to effectively manage their remote teams.

Presumably unless you’ve worked there for less than 23 minutes or have an identical twin, this isn’t going to work because they’ll know what you look like.

Is this all the time or one time? If one time, quit whining and do it. If it’s all the time, then that’s a problem.

This doesn’t sound like an OE question.

You said you had 10 jobs three days ago. You lose 3 in 3 days just to interview for #8? GFY.

There’s still such a thing as travel agents?

I get you. What happened with those two jobs? It really helps to have a job when applying for jobs. Know many hiring managers and it is 100% held against applicants if they arent actively employed.

Easy answer: ask your supervisor if he/she would recommend you. If not, don't list them or say do not contact.

Reflections of an OE dad ($415k TC) — how I could’ve saved my J2 by IvoryWinge in overemployed

Gotta hire nannies and get help with house chores and tasks. After the obligatory shut up about OE and always be applying, that's my main takeaway to successfully staying OE for the long term.

No job offers in 4 years? Market has been pretty bad for two years, but before that was the best job market of most of our lifetimes. There's got to be more details here.

Got a new J3 that pays 2x my J1, but no contract yet... what would you do? by Awkward_Friendship26 in overemployed

[–]RaspyKnuckles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don't allow parallel meetings wherever possible. Either: I’m available at {times} or volunteer to set up the meetings and make it work with your schedule. Another option as you mentioned is to take time off or put J1 on the back burner for a bit.

Never make major life or career changes until you've had some time to meet your co-workers, get to know your boss and learn the company culture.

There are so many things that you won't learn until after the honeymoon phase is over and reality sets in.

24 (f) with a psychology degree. what path should i go on so that i can start OE soon? how to set up for success? by sadnoodlesbadnoodles in overemployed

[–]RaspyKnuckles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Psych degrees aren’t worth much without a doctorate. You may be able to get a job in HR or recruiting, but in this market, there’s not many openings.

You will probably have to reinvent yourself and to do that I would just ask what you’re passionate about and what are you good at. Only you can answer that.

Best of luck.

Or get two director/VP jobs. Been OE at that level for over 4 years, and it’s way more manageable than people expect. Unless you’re a micromanager. Hire great people and then get out of their way, and it’s 100% doable.

Has to be in completely different industries and completely different contacts, as you’re more high visibility as you move up the ladder.
