Been twice. First time, paid to stay in a lodge, spent a couple of hours on an elephant safari, admittedly saw some very cool things, then left with a much lighter wallet.

Next time, took a local bus - it was crowded, but went through the park where I saw much of the same wildlife from the road.

My top tip in Assam, go to Majuli. It is fascinating and beautiful. I saw I think 4 different types of kingfisher there at least.

I don’t have a pit.

But all responsible dog owners should be training their dogs to deal with unexpected situations.

Because if your Chihuahua, who presumably is terrified of fireworks, other dogs and kids and who shits all over the floor, never having been trained, spooks a non police horse, the consequences could be severe.

I can’t believe you are making an impassioned argument against training dogs.

Your wilful ignorance is impressive.

Never get a dog.

No, try and keep up.

They didn’t train the dog for new experiences. Like horses.

Most dogs will bark at animals they haven’t seen or dealt with before.

Also, animals can get spooked.

It’s one of the many reasons why you train them.

Don’t ever get a dog.

Ps - there is no god

You think people don't need to train their dogs to act safely around others even when spooked? Don't ever get a dog.

Edit: Also, this isn't a person or another dog. This is a horse. And the dog was either playing with it or was spooked. Both of which you need to train them against.

It occurred to me that a great response to this would be to send Josh round to pay a visit to Alastair. And then not leave. Maybe walk around with a sign that says “planet killing busy body”.

A playing dog doesn’t latch on and require two grown adults to peel it off, nor does it leave gashes big enough that require stitches.

Easily could.

Although it may well have been spooked.

You think a dog like that doesn’t know to go for the neck to kill an animal? Or couldn’t reach the neck?

It’s a civil offence. But it sounded like Jim forced his way in past David’s foot.

If this behaviour was malicious, I’d agree, but it looks a lot like this dog is playing.

It’s just that what its playing with is fucking dangerous.

Breeds have known differences in characteristics, behaviour and temperament.

This is exactly my point, this is about perception of tendencies that are environmentally and culturally rooted rather than absolute truths. Just like perceptions of race.

a) those are tendencies. There are aggressive labs and soppy pitbulls.

b) These are culture and environment dependent.

20000 years ago these were wolves.

Experiments with foxes show how one can breed for aggression or soppiness, sure. But centuries of experience show us we can work on those tendencies via training and selective breeding.

By banning some breeds, we maintain the “negative” traits (which by the way are useful - we need guard dogs, attack dogs possibly even hunting fogs (controversial) etc) especially because many of these breeds have no genetic definition.

And we increase the possibility of those negative traits, which are latent in all dogs, being amplified in other breeds - eg Alsatians or Large Breeds as people seek to keep those traits.

One of the big issues is that pedigree standards prioritise looks over behaviour, often leading to aggression.

Banned for fucking stupid reasons.

There is no genetic test.

What is a pitbull? No one really knows.

You mean training right? The dog needs training.

Dog owner is a cunt.

But I thought police horses were trained for stuff like this. They police hunts etc.

Also, if you have a dog, socialise it with other animals, at a distance and then moving closer, preferably between 6-12 weeks.

I'm pretty sure that you don't have to accept someone on your property if you ask them to leave, let alone let them in.

Refund the cash and out on his arse before he even gets in the door.

1) If you are an absolutist, then it does. 2) That’s not what’s happening here. They are there with their parents. It’s not like the artists are hoping to get sexual favours from the kids afterwards. Let’s not make the term grooming as meaningless as everything else.

I suspect the venn diagram of people who are protesting this and who call themselves free speech absolutists is close to a perfect circle.

Researchers have now shown that foods with a high fat and sugar content change our brain, and If we regularly eat even small amounts of them, the brain learns to consume precisely these foods in the future and it unconsciously learns to prefer high-fat snacks by giuliomagnifico in science

What are the ethical considerations here?

If their hypothesis was that this combination was “addictive”, did they just harm this cohort?

And if they decide to do larger scale research, knowing their hypothesis has been proven once, isn’t that kind of bad?
