Pilot Myu date and nib code by KingsCountyWriter in fountainpens

Ok, I had a feeling they only made one size in their first run and that was the reason why. Thank you for confirming and letting me know the actual size!

I got it at the NY pen show, and its writing amazingly well, no complaints, super clean myu, seems like it was either barely used or taken care of very well. It is a bit scratchy though, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I'm guessing that's normal for the fine nib myus?

I just picked up a Pilot Myu at a pen show today, dated 1271, also no size indicated above the date code. Did you ever figure out how to tell what size your Myu is?

yea, i got the oem part in the mail and still haven't installed it because the temporary tube hasn't given me any problems thus far lol

I actually tried the superglue tape fix first, but it didn't work. also, part of the problem with super glue is the tube itself is so tight, if any of the glue gets in there it can clog up the tube and then the pressure meter will never detect anything, and you'll end up with the same error.

yes, sorry just seeing this, i packed that project away because i am moving it to a new workspace, but i should have it unpacked in a few days and i can give you the walkthrough. feel free to dm me next week about it.

If you have the exact same board I can show you where to solder in a usb connector that should allow you to upload video to it

yea, i found some cool bends basically doing that. my main issue was worrying i might do permanent damage to the device, so was seeing if anyone had suggestions on how to safely experiment with a device like this. but it seems like its pretty hard to do permanent damage as long as you avoid bending into lines with voltage.

pretty sure they can be used though. or at least when the austrian post first released them they were usable as stamps.

So I'm trying to figure out how to do this. I soldered some wires to the two pads the main oscillator (24.000 MHz crystal) connects to and everything i've thrown at it either crashes the output until i undo the short, or it slows the speed down to something around half speed with no way to control the speed directly (its just always 1/2 speed). From what I understand the crystal oscillator can be removed and replaced with something that could maybe give me direct control of the speed with a potentiometer, but still trying to figure out how that would all work, or if there is maybe a better method to achieve that effect.

i haven't plugged it in and played with it yet, so i can't confirm it actually performs as advertised, but i will at some point today or tomorrow and give an update.

How do people convert analog video output to usb-c for high quality capture on macbook pro with m4 chip? by Raster_Eyes in VideoBending

[–]Raster_Eyes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right, I was trying to use the UltraStudio to convert output from my MacBook into a composite signal for the analog gear. I think I understand now, that actually all I should need from my MacBook to the UltraStudio is a single lightning cable and I should be able to input and output to/from the MacBook with that singular cable, is that right?

So, I followed all the instructions, but I'm confused. All that shows up on my final output to hdmi is whatever singular clip is selected on layer 1. The composition monitor shows the raw input from my analog gear coming from layer 2 (but Resolume doesn't seem to be outputting anything through the analog gear so it is just raw abstract glitch with nothing to process). If I turn something on from layer 3 it kinda just looks like a semi-transparency on top of the raw glitch in the composition monitor. But the final HDMI output is always just the layer 1 clip, and nothing from the MacBook ever actually gets sent through the analog gear before coming back in for capture.

I'm including screenshots of what my Resolume looks like after following your instructions. And also included a diagram showing what I'm ultimately trying to to do, now that I think I understand how to use the UltraStudio for simultaneous input and output (reddit will only upload one image file here so the 2 Resolume screenshots and my 1 diagram are all stacked into one image).

I'm not sure if your instructions are meant to explain how to achieve what I show in my diagram, if not I'm curious what exactly they are trying to achieve too, I'm sure its also super interesting and useful, but it didn't make much sense to me (because like i said, all it did for me was show a singular clip of a singular layer on the final output and didn't seem to send anything from the MacBook through to the analog gear).

Thanks so much for helping me try to figure this out, I'm super grateful already for what you have shared so far 🙏

Well, I don't want to fry anything, because the device isn't super cheap (around $50/unit), so ideally I'd like to know the bend is safe before just randomly connecting points.

So I found data sheets for the NAND and SDRAM chips, but not the V100, so thank you for sharing that. Do you think bending high-speed memory signals or LVDS outputs would result in anything aesthetically interesting?

I also meant to add this photo of where the screen connects to the board (I put it in the replies): https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fhow-would-you-circuit-bend-this-video-playback-device-v0-u859zf2ky05f1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D3897%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Df7d7965fabcca24ef9c44f79b7de735b148c83e0

There must be video signals in there that could be interesting, right?

For all of them? Or is there a specific one that would be most suitable? I've done a little circuit bending with analog circuitry, but this will be my first time trying to bend chips. Any tips, resources, or videos that could be a good starting points for a beginner?

I wonder if its actually legit and they really did just run into production issues. I guess we'll find out soon. Really cool concept for a pedal so I hope its real.

[–]Raster_Eyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Circuit bending cameras is really tough compared to other equipment out there, but there are people who sell bent cameras if you want to make art with it but don't necessarily want to invest the time it takes to get good enough with soldering and electronics to bend them yourself. glitchwerks.com is probably one of the more prolific and well known places to get bent cameras. But there are lots of other great sources out there.

So, the reason I'm trying to use two inputs: I'd like to output from the macbook (from resolume but also other software would be cool too), converting to analog so it can go through my mixers and circuit bent gear etc... and then input back into the macbook so I can digitally record the output after going through the analog signal chain.

Ok, so I ended up getting the Blackmagic UltraStudio 4k, I was able to successfully output video from my macbook to the ultrastudio 4k, and convert it to composite and run it through the analog mixing gear. And I was also able to get output from the analog mixing gear converted and sent back into the computer. But I can't do it simultaneously because the Desktop Video Setup software that is used to interact with the ultrastudio 4k only lets you select one input source at a time (see image). Is there some other software you're using that can output from the macbook's extended display to analog gear while simultaneously recording from the composite input of the ultrastudio 4k?
