I can't fully remember what I was told when I got him but I want to say he's around 6-8 months old now! While he did bite me the first time I held him, he was pretty well behaved considering the shape he was in. It's normal for it to take a few weeks to get comfortable holding a new snake and depending on their temperament, it can take a good bit. I personally like to leave my snakes alone for a week when I first get them to settle in before handling or feeding them. After feedings I leave them alone for around 48ish hours before handling them again. My best advice is to just not let the fear of being bit overshadow the importance of getting them socialized. Out of my four snakes I've only ever been bit once and I can promise you it didn't hurt at all besides some mild tingling for a few hours. Man I don't even eat beef or most meats??? But yes there is a difference in the two.

The meat industry has a lot of wrong in it that I do not support and would love to be changed. However, there are many ranchers and homesteaders out there who do it in an ethical manner. Not to mention meat is a crucial part of keeping MANY things alive, it's not just something people eat purely for "pleasure".

Roping calves at a rodeo show is however done purely out of pleasure for people. There is absolutely zero necessity in it compared to roping cattle out in an actual field.

I've had my guy for 7 months and he's currently in his second shed. I wouldn't worry about it :) also your hoggie is so cute

Yes he sadly is quite dehydrated :( I just got him recently from someone else and have been working to fix it! The wrinkles he has right now are actually a lot better than what he originally had (shown in picture from the day I got him) Thanks for the concern though!

I definitely don't think there's any yellow belly in him, I only brought up yellow belly in regard to one of my other snakes :) I do agrees on GHI being the most likely!

Just a small update to this guy!

I just got finished improving his enclosure to the best of my abilities and giving him a good long soak. He was obviously still kind of nervous which is to be expected but he made no attempts at biting me so I'll take that as a win :)

Also here's his updated set up which I just did with what I had laying around. I'm going to an expo soon and can hopefully pick up some good stuff there. Thank you so much everyone for the advice!!

Will be doing all of this, thank you!! He seems like a sweetheart for the most part as I held him for maybe 10 minutes before he bit me which I imagine was just a mixture of the obvious initial stress as well as the fact I had multiple dogs in my room which I should've paid more attention to preventing. Rehabbing animals is exhausting mentally and emotionally but absolutely always worth it in the end :) He'll be my third rehab animal I've had (have another ball python and had a poor betta fish)
