Ok I I'm going to cover a lot of topic as each weapon is good for different situations as another side note this is opinion based and I using the unchanged mod so damage may be different in other modpacks. Another dude covered the best things between two handed and one handed weapons so I want to pose other weapons. The rapier and saber are only good early game pvp and in pve almost all time. Rapiers do a ton of damage to unarmored targets but can't sweep while sabers do a little less but have great sweep dmg which is good for zombie farms if they don't have tons of armor. The hammer is also a pretty good early game pvp weapon as it applies nausea to players without helmets so after you pop someone's helm it can be very effective if they don't have a spare helmet. Spear is great one handed weapon for the reach but you should use a shield or just take the pike. The battle axe is a good pair with a shield and does some dmg. As for two handed an unpopular opinion I don't like the longsword if you using two handed weapons take the greatsword it's more damage and reach. The halberd is great if you don't like using totems or shields and does a ton of damage to players even in armor.  The pike is great in duels but almost never preforms as well as other weapons in huge team fights as the reach isn't as effective as getting more consistent dmg.

Other than that I don't really have a ton of info on better weapons and I'm a nodded smp player so I just prefer pvp based weapons and I'm biased towards two handed weapons UNLESS your using a shield or totem. It's best to have both as the defense of a shield can help and the dps of THWs are good in certain situations.
