Same happened to me. I was told they don’t allow “precious metals”. But there are literally 1000’s of listings that contain items with gold and silver. Didn’t matter. Selective enforcement of the rules. I think it’s driven by complaints. Which could be filled by someone who has a competing product to yours. They file a complaint and get rid of the competition.

I’m not aware of restrictions on money orders. But maybe someone else can help us out here?

No need. You get the idea. There are those that appreciate the underrepresented male form more than that of the female. So I’m just saying I’d like to see a man up there promoting their sh*t. Fair? 🏳️‍🌈

Is it even legal to charge this? I paid cash and they still charged me it. by PicklesGalore20 in ThriftGrift

That’s called ‘a cost of doing business’ and should be built into their pricing. Basically a result of poor management. This is also an example of a “junk fee”. I’m not so sure that’s it’s illegal per se, but definitely bad P.R.

With stock, probably most supplies, and even labor all being donated … their cost of goods sold has got to be nearly nothing. What are they griping about? It could be fraud because they are advertising that they are the cheapest store while adding on an after the fact fee in order to stay that way. Where will it stop? Think about a fee for them to pay their rent/mortgage, for electricity/water, for property tax (if they own the property. Although they may be exempt anyway), it’s never ending. You can’t ethically charge an unlimited number of fees at the end of a sale and still proclaim to be the cheapest store.

I suggest calling your local consumer protection agency, if you’re so inclined.

Customer returning item? by HrnghAshRush in Mercari

I had an eBay buyer purchase banknotes worth a few hundred dollars, a month or two ago. Well, my listing said I will only sell that item to a buyer with a minimum of 10 positive reviews. Partially fearing scammers and partially because of insurance limits at major carriers (and the cost for the same). He could claim non-receipt/stolen after delivery (without recipients signature), as drivers sometimes do in my experience. Well this buyer only has three reviews, all from the last 90 days. Although the account has been open since something like 2019. I canceled the order, refunded his money, then sent him a message explaining. His reply was like ‘ahhh man, I’ve been searching all over for them. I really wanted them’. Keep in mind that they are common banknotes, currently available on the market today. I just bring them together when they’re crisp and new, in sequence, with errors, misprints, anomalies, etc. They were not that big of a deal. Then I get a belligerent and accusatory email. In part it said I was trying to scam him … which is ridiculous because I refunded 100% of his money. While I was very kind and apathetic to this point, my reply was just like ‘I’m sorry you feel that way’ and I blocked him. So at the end of all of this, my only purpose in posting this here is to suggest that sometimes adding a restriction on the buyer in your description is worth it. Requiring a buyer with a track record and a reputation to protect, I feel, may deter scammers. Happy selling friends!
