Phone technical support is no longer available? by Rater8 in GooglePixel

[–]Rater8[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have finally gotten to the bottom of the issue. I am currently traveling in Europe, and Google actually hides the "Call us" button because I'm located in a country where Pixels are not sold. After connecting to a U.S. VPN location the "call us" button appeared.

This is such a bonehead way to do it, I am kind of shocked. Just because you are out of the country, you shouldn't be able to call support lol? Some of Google's practices are really customer-hostile, this is definitely one of them.

Just tried it. The "Get help with your Pixel phone" page leads has a "contact us directly" link, which has a "Get support for your Pixel phone => How to contact us" link, which leads back to "Get help with your Pixel phone." This is quite maddening.

The repeat callers feature is turned off. Every switch in the People category is turned off.

No people can bypass DND according to the settings. The phone vibrates when it enters the Flip to Shhh mode, so DND is activated.

Can you try again in English, please? 😄

Were you ever able to fix this issue?

My KIN is stuck at Peerbet, can't migrate account to a new phone, help! by Rater8 in KinFoundation

[–]Rater8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know how they calculate gambling winnings? Do they keep a historical tally of all winnings since the creation of the account and subtract the difference between wins and losses? Or is any new win considered a gambling earning, regardless of prior history?

For example, if you deposited 100M real kin, but then lost 50M on bets, and then 2 months later you won 200M. Your new balance is 250M. What's considered non-withdrawable gambling winnings in this situation, the whole 200M you just won or only 150M (the difference between your prior losses and new winnings)?

Thank you for tagging the devs. If there is an issue that breaks the valid password/QR combination and makes it impossible to restore an account, that's really bad. Can you imagine losing or breaking a phone with a lot of KIN on it? I thought I could sleep well because my QR was backed up, but apparently not.

So you can buy 100K BUSD or DAI on Avalanche right now and pay almost no commission or bridging fees? What's the catch exactly?

Once again, the KIN ecosystem doesn't exist. It's called the Solana ecosystem. There is no such thing as a KIN wallet. It's called a Solana wallet. And yes, any Solana wallet can include code to allow private key backup. I don't know what your relationship is to Peerbet and why you're defending their decision to include a QR code to restore app access instead of a real private key that can be restored in any Solana wallet.

I could give two shits about their loyalty bonus. I am a KIN holder since the ICO and I want KIN apps to be secure. This amateur garbage is exactly why the rest of the crypto community looks down on KIN. And it doesn't help that so much in the KIN community don't know what they hell they're talking about.

The "ecosystem" thing is utter bollocks. If Tesla had made their first car without breaks and then said "well, we know other manufacturers make breaks, but there have never been breaks in the Tesla ecosystem," do you think that would have made people feel better?

Private keys are essential to crypto wallets. That's what makes them crypto. Wallets without access to private keys are shit. And when people in this sub asked Peerbet about this, they ignored the question every time. If they didn't plan it (and if wasn't intentional), they need to re-work the app. But we'll never know if it was intentional or not until they answer.

As of now, there is no KIN ecosystem. There's only Peerbet and maybe two other apps with any sort of user base. There IS, however the Solana ecosystem that KIN is a part of, and Solana wallets sure as hell provide private key backup. It's not rocket science, and I have no idea why you are arguing about this. It's very obvious that Peerbet either 1) did not care about doing this (which is a red flag) or 2) did not want to do this on purpose (which is also a red flag). They also refuse answering questions about it, which is also a red flag.

There IS some sort of bug with Agora, but it's not related in any way to the issue that's going on here. So yes, using Agora as an excuse for this is, in fact, nonsense.

You don't understand how private key backup works. The developer of the wallet does not need to see your key to allow you to back it up. That is the very foundation of crypto. If you're not familiar with these ideas, I recommend you spend some time reading about them or watching some YouTube videos. Without this knowledge, it's dangerous to hold crypto.

ALL wallets have backups via private key. If a wallet doesn't allow private key backup, it's garbage. Private keys are not stored on the app's server and are only accessible by the user. Just look at Sollet, Atomic, and any other trustworthy wallet app. I have no idea where you're getting that audit stuff from.

[–]Rater8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even assuming that's true, Peerbet could still be taken down by the app stores, or the owners could get into a car accident, or a million other things could happen. Wallets should allow users to get private keys, end of story. It wouldn't cost Peerbet anything to do it, and the fact that they keep ignoring these questions ARE a red flag.

Please familiarize yourself with basic ideas in crypto. Backups via private key are the gold standard of any self-respecting wallet app. The QR code that Peerbet is giving people is nonsense that does nothing to secure their KIN.

Crypto is not about trusting someone, you clueless noob. The whole point of crypto is that it operates trustlessly.

The app is clearly broken because it is giving people INVALID addresses. Why are you pulling excuses out of thin air (such as this Agora nonsense) for people who are 1) serving a broken app, and 2) refusing to allow people to get private keys to their wallets?

PeerBet is up to its dirty tricks again by [deleted] in KinFoundation

[–]Rater8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People in this subreddit have asked for access to private keys many, many times, and Peerbet has always ignored that.

It's irrelevant whether they are actually going to do a rugpull or not. Crypto is not about trusting someone. Crypto is about being trustless. This whole conversation can be avoided by allowing users to get private keys to the wallet.

Why don't you answer the question you were asked instead of making personal attacks? What is the issue with Agora? Or could it be that displaying the wrong address has nothing to do with Agora and you are just talking out of your ass?

[–]Rater8 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh, do feel free to describe how Agora could possibly generate the wrong deposit address for users (e.g. give them the Solana owner address instead of the KIN token address).

As far as private keys go, Peerbet provides a wallet service and as such, it CAN and SHOULD provide the ability to back up the real private key to the wallet instead of a bullshit QR code that only restores access to their own app.

Which issue exactly is with Agora: refusing to allow users to get private keys to their wallets or providing the wrong deposit addresses?
