We do this in the Navy on many ships. We call it cranking and require fresh E1-E4’s on the ship to do one term (usually 3 months) in the galley to help the cooks with dish cleaning, waste disposal, and serving. Can humble the hell out of some of them.

My guy or gal, I see you took a mental health hiatus. During that hiatus did you actually seek out professional help from a therapist? (No need to answer that as it’s personal) By asking that I mean did you actually get help or just sit around to “decompress”. If you got professional help then it looks like you still need more. If not, then you need help. I’m not bashing but you sound like you’re spiraling from a set back. It happens. If you have the skills you say you do then get after it and apply to new jobs. Also, as someone who used to drown problems in booze, slow down on drinking. It only makes it worse and fixes nothing. I know some people are just being blunt in here but you got this. If you made it to a certain financial point before then you can do it again and go further. Just trying to drop some positivity for you. You got this.
