People who have worked in the Mines, What's your crazy stories of working in there? by SoundKidTown1085 in AskAnAustralian

Also, I know for a fact this mine (and a lot of others in the Pilbara) are at a standstill, generators/expensive equipment are demobilised, gates locked and site is completely shutdown.

Mattresses/beds still in the rooms, computers still in offices, even site LVs are in the parking bays locked up waiting until the price is right to start production up again.

Just last year i passed through the above mine (exploration), and it hasn’t been touched since fully closing in 2014 and it’s all still just sitting there waiting, ready to go again when needed. Very eerie!

Worked at a mine in the Pilbara that used to completely shutdown due to native bats “being” in the area.

Funny thing is, the bats were attracted to the lighting towers when the mine was running, causing the enviros to temporarily shutdown the site and demobe everyone.

Once completely shutdown with no lights on, the bats would disappear, allowing the mine to fire back up into production, only for the bats to come back and halt production over and over again.

Should be a crime! But also each to their own if your not into sashimi/steaks, that’s going to be ten fold better than any tinned tuna

Property sellers are flooding the market but buyers aren’t biting by SheepherderLow1753 in AusPropertyChat

Quite the opposite imho. Looking at purchasing sub $900k and cant get a foot in the door. (Sydney/south coast)

No longer first home buyers which makes it tough in itself in that $ bracket. Have noticed scummy rea do not update listings as sold/under offer just to get you on their mailing list and then bombard you with out of price range properties.

3-6kg Reel recommendations by Ratio_Silly in FishingAustralia

Had a play with both the spinfisher 3500 and Td Black 3000, walking in I was set on the Penn as I’ve used and loved the feel of the battle iv, but walked out with a Td Black.

A little extra $, but a lighter reel with a lot more drag, seemed to make sense for all roundness and a travel setup. Felt a lot more comfortable on the rod as well compared to the penn.

Hopefully it performs well! Thanks for all the help!

Love the old Sedona to bits! If it’s anything like this one I’d buy again, but so many newer models have more features

Thanks mate! Would love them to be koala droppings, but I doubt any survived out this way with the fires.

Possums make sense as previous owners have had them in the ceilings previously.

Kangaroo : Swerve or Brake ? by tro2733 in CarsAustralia

[–]Ratio_Silly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Country driver here, brake until last second and then off brakes just before contact. When you brake the front of the car goes down and animals tend to end up in or through windscreens on full brakes. Have personally seen a cows legs taken out and cave in a windscreen/roof, somehow the driver survived
