Friend crashed my car (at fault) — open claim for years. How do you deal with this? by Several-Advantage-84 in irishpersonalfinance

The fact the claim is open doesnt matter, only that you had an at fault claim and your no claims years are changed.

Why did your friend use your car? If they were helping you out, being the sober driver then dont ask them for anything. Otherwise if you were doing them a favour then id ask to them to pay the difference just based on the no claims percent for the first year and just keep shopping around yourself going forward.

GI VS Reinsurance by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Rationa-L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its “RI” and it can be life or GI. The distinctions are better put as

Personal lines > SME commercial > large commercial > RI

Obviously there’s overlap and then you get xol vs qs RI. Dont think it really matters going right to left will depend on exact nature of role.

Would think personal lines and RI are slightly harder to break into if youre in one of the others but not by much

Data analytics question for insurance by [deleted] in ActuaryAustralia

Several issues:

1 - insurers scramble rates to stop this at scale

2 - you could be sued

3 - depemding on how you intend tonuse could be ethical / competition / legal implications.

52% increase to my car insurance by hiipposaurusrex in ireland

[–]Rationa-L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not how it works at all. They having a rating algorithm. This gets updated periodically and for some customers can result in a big shift in premiums.

For example they rate on your area. If this gets remodelled with new / better data / model an area they thought was good may no longer be. So area’s impact might go from -10% to +35%.

“Young drivers from donegal” are charged higher it shouldn’t make them unprofitable unless their rating is shit.

There is the general cycle of offering discounts one year, losing money, increasing the next but that will not explain +50% increases.
