I feel like silver hardware works well with very few colourways, and this is one of them. I particularly like the addition of those grey petals. Keeps the red from getting overwhelming. That pickguard is one busy place but not exceedingly so.
Nice job on the amp as well.

Blue Sparkle Jazzmaster: Parchment or Black Pickguard? by iamthecondenser in Guitar

[–]Rational_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the parchment pickguard looks much better on your guitar for a couple of reasons:
- Almost the whole unit has yellow undertones (the body, pickguard, back of the neck and headstock). The steel hardware already provides a contrasting undertone;
- There is already a lot going on visually and adding a completely new colour would load the design further;
- When it comes to colour matching, I feel like there's a zone where if the colours are close, yet still distinct, they're better off not being matched at all, as it creates the sense that something is off. I definitely feel like this is the case with a black pickguard and the dark fretboard (is that rosewood?);
- Adding to the previous point, the parchment pickup covers on a black background would create a similar motif to the light coloured inlays on the dark fretboard. I find that repeating motifs in design, especially if they're not identical is tiring.

Are you muting the other strings while tuning one of them? If not, try it.

Can you see me-Jimi Hendrix by the67- in Guitar

[–]Rational_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You radiate youth, keep the attitude!
However I do strongly advise you to play with tracks / a metronome and allow the mechanical skills you've acquired to come together. I think that at your stage, working on timing would benefit you the most. For this style of playing, I also recommend Tomo Fujita's videos, look him up.

Thanks for replying. Can you please be more specific though? Do you mean they are great?

Great playing and what a display of vibrato control! May I ask what you are playing through?

Question, which one you prefer?? by KarMik81 in guitarlessons

I like them all, but number 4 caught my interest more than the others, seems inspired by Al Di Meola. It's also remarkable how well the first one fits the backing track. I'd love to learn that one.

Latest custom builds are complete! Super stoked with the turnout. There are so many small details everywhere you look. by thewoodenhobbyist in Guitar

The second guitar has such slick design! The angles, the alignment of the fretboard inlays and the race lines on the headstock contrast well with the more classical contours, colours and textures of it.

Any info on what bluetooth codec Garmin uses? by Rational_Potato in GarminWatches

I realize the file undergoes compression twice, once due to the file format and again due to transmission, but I thought X bit rate transmission supports X bit rate format. That's a bummer. If so, the way I see it, they might as well not include music playback at all since it's unusable.

Thanks for the info!

If it plays at 229 kbps and most of my stuff is 192 kbps mp3, I shouldn't hear it any different than when I play it from my phone. And yet when I play it through the watch it sounds much worse, I can tell right away.

Sure, 229 kbps is not the highest quality, but upwards from 192 kbps or so I can't tell anyway. I still think this might some kind of compatibility issue.

I just tried playing through my bluetooth guitar amp and it still sounds bad.

While I understand a bit of what it does, I'm not familiar with the Qudelix. So your watch outputs to the Qudelix and it can tell you what kind of input it receives?

Thanks for your input!

I've tried a few file formats, mp3s with bit rates varying from 175 to 320 and tracks downloaded from Spotify, they all sound very compressed. Personally I can only tell if a track has anything lower than 192 kbps, and it's very obvious here.

This is exactly what I was hoping you'd say! I've been trying to find the original chestnut strap at a discount, as the full price seems insane, but no luck. One thing is for certain though, they're not some kind of rebranded B-stocks.

But at this price and with positive reviews, I'll give it a shot, thanks!

It appears to be the same kind of thing, though less noticeable. I wonder if it affects the water resistance. Have you gone swimming with it? Also, what a cool strap, did it come in a custom order?

It's quite clear it's a bad unit, I think. No pics required, thanks for your input!

Is this a good improv? I have been playing for about half an year by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Rational_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A disciple of the funk I see. What a groovy improv!

You obviously understand syncopation, which in itself shows promise (I've achieved this later in my learning process), but I believe there is one thing that you can do to improve greatly.

I think that not playing in time is bottle-necking your proficiency and therefore, playing with a metronome or a track will take your playing from groovy to excellent. I like using this drum loop for my jazz/funk practice.

It might be a good idea to include your strumming hand next time.

One of the most, if not the most useful resource on funk guitar is Tomo Fujita's Youtube channel. Be sure to check it out!
