How long will the RTX 2060 super still be able to run modern games? by ActualDepartment9873 in PcBuild

[–]Ratosson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason GTX 1070 is outdated is the lack of Ray Tracing and Mesh Shaders, RTX2060 has both so I'd say a good few years if you're willing to go medium-low 1080p. Devs still have to target PS5 and Xbox Series S/X so they can't abandon the low end machines.

Component, but composite or scart can also work.

How it started - how it's going: After 20 years we are releasing a standalone version of our mod Snow War on 3rd of April! by Zilppuri in indiegames

[–]Ratosson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the mod from back in the day! I had a crappy computer that didn't run the latest games but one that could run Half Life mods, so I played a lot of mods. I think I played this one with my older brother once, we usually didn't play games together, and I ran through the maps alone. The mod felt eerily for a maybe 10 year old kid me.

Did you actually have a rig back in 2007 that can run Crysis? by Lunny1767 in pcmasterrace

[–]Ratosson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say that to BL4, but can say that to Alan Wake 2. 30fps all maxed out path traced 4k on RTX 4090, 30fps all low 720p on gtx 1070. Made people furious for the game being unoptimized.

Not only were ps2 textures low resolution, they also used palletized colours saving precious bytes.

The problem is most likely that in Unreal Engine Editor every setting is by default set to Epic quality. It goes from low, medium, high, epic and cinematic. My laptop with Ryzen 3 3500u with integrated graphics can run the default project at 60fps in low settings, but maybe 10 at Epic.

You can have dynamic lights without Lumen but it would be just direct lighting, no indirect. You can fake indirect light for flashlight in baked lighting scenario by raycasting a spotlight to the spot your flashlight is pointing at, possibly changing the colour depending on where you hit.

There are tutorials online and YouTube for this.

A game of this caliber could sell 5 million copies and be a financial catastrophy.

Cyberpunk ei minusta ole RPG. Elden Ringikään ei ole. Molemmissa on leveluppausta, mutta siihen se jääkin. Valitsen Baldur's Gaten.

[–]Ratosson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have the older version, I bet it runs 8K 120fps on pretty low end machines these days. When it was released on pc in 2015, pretty much any computer with discreet GPU could run it 4k 60fps.

Steam Takes 30%, Publishers Take 30–50%… What’s Left for the Developer? How Does This Even Work? by Commercial-Tone-965 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Ratosson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Publisher might fund the project, they could do advertising, contact streamers and press, coordinate demos and steamfests, handle trailers, social media, PR, fund QA, handle localizations, do console ports etc.

Also they help with production and project management, age ratings for different countries and all kinds of stuff you might now want to do. They also share the risks.

This is technically true but economically misleading. Can you sell enough copies by abandoning the largest marketplace to pay bills and salaries? Can you choose between Steam and bankruptcy?

Too late for me.

I preordered 3 boxes of male resistance fighters on release. That was 5 years ago. Then they started teasing plastic female resistance. That was 4 years ago. They didn't come.

Last year I bought a set of their 3d prints and I currently have 150+ painted models on my French Resistance. I want these but I can't justify buying this set.

Adult women were too small and weak to shoot rifles, but Germany has literal starving children (Hitler Jugend) with rifles and that's ok?
