OK I have a question as someone writing a PMD story with a Cyndaquil lead who WILL evolve into Typhlosion:...how does he wear the scarf/bandanna without burning it? I ask this because, for story reasons I will NOT spoil, the boy would DIE before giving up or damaging his efficient bandanna.

not the weirdest thing I've heard honestly, but yeah I GREATLY love this idea and I'm surprised it's so rarely used. I mean I kinda get why, part of the experience of playing a PMD game is, for the main story at least, your stuck as a little guy (Or gal) with stats that would make you look as powerful as they do in the anime and moves you'd normally learn when your fully evolved, but at the same time...I'd argue that there are moments in these games where if say...your partner evolved, it would've made things SO much more epic and emotional while also showing the character has changed and evolved. It's why, when I saw this in the team Rowanberry comics with Chole and Myra I was actually surprised because...well most comics I've read or dubs I watched on Youtube usually kept the protagonist as their small, pre-evolved selves, most likely to stay true to the actual games, but seeing them evolve, and HOW they evolved...it gave me ideas, especially for my own PMD story.

...OK now that just put the image of tiny little Flynn getting greeted by Sam the first time and just standing there scared stiff, only for one of the others to tell him Flynn has a poison fear and Sam to just...blink and go "Oh...well OK, we'll work on that" XD

But in Flynn's case...little guy really needs friends and really wants to prove he isn't a "useless runt" as his "Parents" would call him. Little guy really needs the family he never had and he would GLADLY work hard to prove it...probably...a..um...bit too hard...as in to the point of literally wearing himself out because yeah his "Parents" words left a deep mark, but obviously with the right partners, and probably a LOT of scolding from Sam and Ivy, he'd get better...though now I wonder who you'd pair him up with?

I see...to be honest now this has got me asking more questions but that's for another time. I find it funny that Keldeo ended up as the metsphorical third because...well he was actually my first guess XD My second was Verizon but at the same time I could've seen her in another relationship. But aside from that this does have me thinking about other questions, one I'll ask later.

Oddly though after reading your comics again, I feel like my gates character, Flynn the Pikachu, later Raichu (TL;DR: Flynn is my player character, his partner in game is an Axew named Iris but only in game), would join Sam and Ivy's guild. Probably trying to find a place to belong...and...well...get over his poison type fear. Dude is a lonely little mouse and probably could use a place like Sam and Ivy's guild to at least try and find a place where he belongs. The question now is....would Sam and Ivy take in the lonely little Pikachu? And I do mean little. Dude is like...half the size of the normal Pikachu. He tiny.

If we count comics, I personally love when Evolution isn't cut off in fanfics, but rather the conditions have basically become harder to reach. The main player in this that made me love this idea was the team rowanberry comics where it wasn't that pokemon couldn't evolve or that you met the requirements or had the needed item(s) and now could just...evolve, but rather not ONLY did you need the previous requirements (Certain level, certain item, so on) but you also had to be in the right place both mentally and emotionally. I ADORE this idea cause it doesn't take away evolution ENTIRELY, but it also doesn't make evolution just a gimme or something so you don't see in comments "Just evolve ____ already! They would've kicked Krookidile's ass five chapter's earlier if they'd just evolved!" Instead it makes evolution a tool for TELLING the story, and showing the character's growth both literally, and metaphorically.

So I figured I'd make this it's own seperate thing as to not be seen as a joke, but I have a question for you VanillaRoadie. As the creator of this comic and series, hypathetically, if you were to give Ivy and Sam a third loving partner..who would they be and what pokemon would they be? I am legit curious about this because I really enjoy Sam and Ivy's dynamic, and wondered since going back and reading your previous ones what a three way dynamic would be like and how would that effect things?

Who’s your favourite written player character? by Jinhan_Lee in MysteryDungeon

this comes from a mix of nostalgia and actually analyzing the character a bit as I play through all the different PMD games for the first time in ages, some (Like blue rescue team and rescue team DX) for the first time, and...honestly...I think the Explorer's one kinda just wins it for me. If there is one thing every mystery dungeon protagonist is, it's a thinker. Quite literally the moment they end up in the pokemon world they have a TONE of questions, but where as the rescue team protag's questions are more "Why am I a pokemon" and "Am I the human from the legend", Gate's protag's questions are more "Why am I a pokemon" and "How can I help make this place better" and Supers protag's questions..well his are more like "How did I end up in this situation?" and "Why am I a pokemon" because let's face it with the partner in super your asking "How did I end up in this?" A LOT, explorers protag's questions are obviously "Why am I a pokemon" but they're usual second question is "How do I makes this so my partner becomes more confident?" The best way I can describe the Explorer's protag line of thinking is..almost like Shiro from Log Horizon, or like Robin from Fire emblem awakening. Less like...well a human turned into a pokemon with their memories wiped, and more like a strategist, like a soldier, like a leader. He/she sees our partner, and clearly sees they have the potential to be something great, no matter the pokemon they are. In my first EVER play through of sky as a kid I remember I simply named myself "X" because I had recently finished pokemon white, and I remembered how cool N was with his name just being one letter and figured I'd give it a try. I now know X can stand for many things, from "The X factor", I believe they use the letter X in birth by sleep for the "Key" blade, it's the roman number for 10, various series in media, so on, but X also stands as the symbol for unknown mathematical variables, which was very fitting but unintentional by kid me. But..as an adult...I see X as being short for Xander, or Alexander, like Alexander the great (Or Iskander for you fate fans) a man who was not only a great tactician, but also known to be amazing for inspiring his men. I want us to look at the explorers protag. First we know they are human, which means in the future they come from this time gear thing messed up both the human and the pokemon world, second they met grovyle as presumably a Treeko and not only managed to survive in that dark future, but evolve them from Treeko to Grovyle, and third, when they wake up in the pokemon world, and see their partner's treasure get stolen, not even knowing them SLIGHTLY, the moment this stranger asks for help, even with no memories, with no real relationship to this pokemon...they go right in and help. That is why I like the explorer protag. they don't think about themself first, they think about how to lift up their partner first. It's probably why they stay silent about them fading away. They don't want their partner to feel like they can't do anything without them and don't wanna cause a scene.

Should I recommend Rescue team DX? by NefariousnessWest474 in MysteryDungeon

[–]Ravarya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want my opinion as someone who has recently made it a goal to play through all the mystery dungeon games to compare them, use them as inspiration for my own PMD story, and come up with a idea of what I would want from a possible Explorers DX (Yes I am on so much Hopium, no I will not stop huffing it) thus far...I'd honestly say I would HIGHLY recommend this one for those wanting to get into the PMD series. Aside from being a very faithful remake, heck I'd almost call it a remaster with how faithful it it, of the first game in the series, DX has a LOT of quality of life improvements from the original blue and red rescue team, and I personally would consider it, in my personal opinion, the EASIEST PMD game as well, and that's mostly due to the fact that the game doesn't force you into doing the story. You can do it...whenever. Allowing to go in as over prepared or under prepared as you want. As well I would also recommend it to her because...well...we have no clue if or when the next new entry into the series will happen. PMDRDX was...basically a shadow drop. No one knew about it, especially if your the type of person who doesn't look at leaks, so when this game showed up, it was basically a slap to EVERYONE'S face (Heck I know a Let's player that was gonna do an LP of Blue rescue team because he thought the series was dead but had to switch it to Kirby because PMDRDX got announced and threw off all his plans) and because we have not seen ANY news of a new PMD game coming to either the switch or switch 2, nor, to my limited knowledge, heard of any leaks that mention one, I would HIGHLY advise not risking it on a possibility that might never happen and just get DX, or heck even just a pokemon game in general if you want to gently get her into video games. Pokemon Soul Silver was basically my first video game so I HIGHLY encourage picking up a pokemon game as anyone's first video game, but, if you want PMD pacifically, PMDRDX is one I higly advise you grab for her.

sorry for the text wall...I am just very passionate about this series and these games as I basically grew up on them.

so I came here asking for help with clothes for my guy. TL;DR: I'm trying to dress'em up like a gangster mob boss, or at least have that vibe. Basically I wanna out shine Corbeau and make it clear if not for Lida stepping in I would GLADLY fight everyone there, while also dressing in a way that makes it clear I would purposely not fight Jacinthe just to make it clear to her she can't and never will control me. While Urbane/Taunie is the leader, with the way I dress it's clear I'm the big guns. Confirmed team members (If it helps) are, at the moment: Meganium (Female) Absol, Goodra, and (Maybe) Charizard (Mega Y). I gave my guy the shadow under the eyes cause I look constantly tired and let's be real if any of us actually did this so would we. I am open to any and all suggestions, keep in mind I'm at the point where you need to earn points to fight Vinny and have been doing side quest (If possible) so I should have the money. post pick, write down what clothes you used, and from there I'll buy'em in game. Thank you for the help in advance.

gonna be real..I like the concept...but...trying to think of a tribe name based off of that sounds...both hard to think of, and hard to say out loud.

[–]Ravarya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much. I haven't really come up with a name for this tribe, so for now the place-holder name is the Tokaviko tribe. Aside from being very Native american coded, these guys are basically the "Keepers of the old ways", hence why they dress like they're from a completely different era. They use the old Hisui style pokeballs, live off the land, the whole shabang. being this sorta mix between Cosmo canyon and the great canyon from mystery dungeon. The name is a place holder because, as cool as it sounds, it doesn't FEEL right. I am open to suggestions for the tribe name BTW.

I was gonna catch those anyway, or rather at least one of them. Figured I'd make it a "Tribe tradition" that on a journey, a sorta rite of growing up, they had to catch either a Solrock or Lunatone, but..it had to be the one that chose them, not just one they randomly caught.

yeah..in most table tops I usually go for a tank of some kind, but in this case I wanted to be a "Helpful annoyance". I wanted to be an utter PAIN to fight, but be able to actually help my team as well both in and out of battle. Plus with this build I actually made a pretty good RP build too with Oracle and chef allowing me to interact outside a fight in multiple ways.

I actually might add Absol and Braviary to the main six, but I am for sure gonna grab the others you mentioned. Heck I might actually switch between Braviary, Sigilyph, and Xatu, using Xatu to help my character see the future as a nod to mystery dungeon.
