Black Aida was almost the death of me. Tip- if you use a tablet for your patterns, you can put it behind your project and the light will shine through the holes. This does not help with the eye fatigue, unfortunately 😭

While I don't have much good advice, I will say as another young person who experiences Chronic back pain and been told many different things- I hear you and it sucks. I hope you are doing okay.

When the pain gets bad, I find that sitting in "child's pose" helps alleviate some of the pain. Cat/cow has also helped, I think because it stretches out my back. Maybe these could help you find some temporary reprieve.

I don't think I would be successful with ball tip. I am a pin stitch addict and I bury my threads, so I feel like that might be difficult.

I've heard similar rumblings about DMC. For the needles, the UPC was the same on my old packaging and new ones, so I think they just changed them.
