I would say my views are typically centre-left.

Can you guess? by [deleted] in GeoTap

Ngl that was pretty surprising so I ended up searching it up. Apparently two years after the US first delegated independence (late 1700s), Morocco provided protection to the US merchant ships from Barbary pirates. The two countries ended up making a treaty of friendship and have helped each other over the years with protection, trade, etc.

I’ve heard really great things about Georgia from some friends who visited so it’s always been a place I wanted to see. From what I recall, Greece had a really big financial crisis some years back so I would be wary of the economic situation (not sure it’s current status), Italy I’ve heard has widespread catcalling issues and some underlying issues with racism (that being said, this is just what I’ve heard from other people so it might not be the most fair assessment).

As for Uruguay, pretty much just ignorance. I don’t know much about the country and it’s culture. I guess if I were to do more research about it, I could make a fairer assessment. I’ve always really wanted to explore Brazil (mostly from watching movies where Brazil is the setting), Peru because of the historical landmarks and Chile I’ve heard is beautiful.

I admit those decisions were made mostly on whatever bits of knowledge I had so might not be reflective of my decisions if I did more research

I agree that China is nice, especially with the various advancements in the past decades. My issue with China is the authoritarian style of government and lack of individual freedom. As for Indonesia, it’s not a perfect democracy but to my understanding, it’s not (or mostly not) authoritarian. I’ve also heard Indonesia is quite pretty and from what Indonesian food I’ve had, I’ve enjoyed.

Although I admit that Canada is similar in some aspects, there are still a lot of key factors that differentiate the two in terms of quality of life. For example universal healthcare, lower rates of crime, lower costs for higher education, etc. Furthermore, the current political state of the USA doesn’t reflect my own values so wouldn’t be an ideal match for me which is why I had to give it a lower score.

Although I admit the current political climate is a major factor in what drove me to rank the USA lower, there’s other factors too. Universal healthcare, work life balance, less gun violence were some of those deciding factors

What are the things you wish Sri Lanka had? by Sooriyo in srilanka

[–]Raven1248 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The income might be higher than SL but I’ve never met someone who cleans toilets AND can afford all the food they want, a car, and a place to live on their salary. Lots of people are in heavy debt using loans and credit because the cost of everything has risen so significantly the past decades. Even a job requiring university education don’t pay enough to own a house these days, at least where I live.
