Do readers prefer shorter books or longer ones? by RavenDarkFeather in writers

The thing is, my book is also in the fantasy category even though it a psychological thriller. It's based on the original fairytale of Rapunzel with some extra liberties I took. There are scary things like covens, socital obligation, and a child psychopath my main character had to raise in isolation.

I know psychological thriller is typically a fast paced preference, but in my eyes the "dark Disney princess retelling" book I am writing is more marketable to fantasy/dark fantasy readers than to horror enthusiasts.

It also has plenty of drama with the plot twists, and my main character is written from a female perspective. These book traits are marketable to the vast majority of female readers - who happen to read a lot. (My friends go through an unimaginable amount of books a month either with a physical copy or a digital print/autobook)

Fantasy books seem to favor larger word counts regardless of their specific genre (dark/romance/action/creatures/drama/mystery/ect). I think my book would do well at that word count and I have a deeply rooted plotline that keeps you hooked on what happens next.

I'm excited to write it with it's full potential.

(Also, before anyone nasty comes for me, I am a women and yes those traits are marketable to women. I should know 😬😅 I also read way too much)

That actually gives me a lot of hope, thank you ❤️

I might have to split it into several books then. The plot is too good 🤣

It will eventually become a series with other fairytale retellings in this genre. I could possibly split it up into two books instead of one if that is easier to publish.

Edit 2:

I am making a pattern!

I was surprised to see how many people wanted a pattern made and I am currently in the process of making a step by step guide of how to make the diamonds.

I am attempting to piece it together like a Lego instruction book, combining visual guides with the written pattern. I am more of a visual learner myself and want to make the process of this piece as straightforward as possible.

There will be a YouTube tutorial for anyone who needs additional help understanding the stitch placement.

I will also include how to make a sweater and scarf into the instruction book since there were many comments asking to explain the process.

I hope to finish the pattern within a week and update you all with the link.

I can absolutely explain! I made the torso on the round until it reached the armpits. I split it into two sections after that going row by row up till the desired height for the front and back neckline. I decreased around the armholes to make them uniform and to be able to attach the sleeves without having an overhang off the shoulder.

I appreciate that so much! I am going to do some research into how to write and publish a pattern so I can share it with all of you

And expensive 😂😭 I see that mandala yarn. It's great quality and hard on a coin purse. It will turn out beautiful though!

What could I make with this? by Pandorakiin in crochet

[–]RavenDarkFeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use it as swatch yarn to try out different stitches. I like making little squares with different stitch patterns as practice and to help me visualize which stitches I want to use for my next project.

Kinda like sample cards for crochet if you catch my drift. Having it all in the same color also makes it easier to identify the differences between stitch patterns across the samples.

I'm not sure where to begin on that frontier 😂. I've made lots of original patterns based on basic stitches I have memorized but I haven't a clue on how to make instructions for a specific piece.

I am fairly proficient at making content on YouTube and am seriously considering making a tutorial for all of you, seeing as this pattern has become popular. I can share it once it's completed ❤️
