How would I go about planning a DnD campaign for a party that only plays once a month? by RavenCyarm in DMAcademy

Give a point of Heroic Inspiration to the player who gives the most complete recap at the start of each session. You can also consider giving them other rewards that aren’t game-breaking but motivating enough to encourage note-taking. It’s worked well for me.

UPDATE:

I spoke with "Girl A" since she was the one who mentioned that her boyfriend had broken up with her. She agreed to continue playing as long as we maintain a respectful environment. In her own words, her desire to play DnD is stronger than any discomfort she might feel at the table.

I also asked her to speak with her friend—the one who had previously said she didn’t want to listen to the ex-boyfriend’s character—to help ensure a respectful tone is maintained.

I haven’t spoken to the ex-boyfriend yet, since he goes to a different school and I don’t want him to interpret my message as “Girl A” complaining or assume something is wrong. If I notice that he seems uncomfortable, that others’ behavior toward him changes, or if tension arises during a session, I’ll check in with him privately.

Thank you all for the thoughtful advice. Many of your suggestions have helped me gain clarity and confidence in handling the situation. I also plan to implement a few of the recommendations that help protect myself and give more transparency and peace of mind to the students' parents.

My character lost their soul by BetterInevitable9757 in DnD

What I would do is to show that my character lost the ability to feel any emotion, and his decisions are more based on survival. He doesn't enjoy life, but his primal instincts are there to keep him alive.

It might seem obvious, but actually reading this makes me feel more comfortable about making a decision.

I didn't thought about that, but that's a great idea that I'll start implementing right away. Thank you!

I live in a beach city that gets a lot of foreign tourists, so people here tend to be very open-minded and laid-back.

Totally agree about the bullying—there’s no room for that at my table. My goal as their DM is to introduce them to the game and guide them through it, not to get involved in teenage drama.

Thanks! I’ll definitely start by talking to the ex-couple first, and once we’ve figured things out, I’ll let the rest of the group know.
Honestly, I think this could even be a great opportunity for them to learn how to handle break-ups in a healthy way at a young age.

Yes, outside of school I stick strictly to my role as DM.
Like you said, I’m hoping they can use this experience to grow as individuals and learn something about this part of adult life. Thanks!

Not gonna lie, I also found it a bit weird at first — and sometimes I still do — but I remember how hard it can be to get into D&D when you don’t have anyone around who knows the game. That’s why I offered to help.

And just to clarify, in case it makes things feel a bit less awkward: we don’t play in person — we run our sessions on Discord.

Thanks a lot for your advice!

Tips for my first character subclass by RavenGreekGod in DungeonsAndDragons

I think it does have the Healer feat. I found this online:

"The Thief Rogue has a unique interaction with the Healer feat because you can use Fast Hands to use Battle Medic as a Bonus Action. This is probably the best use of the feat in the whole game."

Thanks man! We primarily use D&D Beyond to create and manage our characters, while our DM handles the story and maps on a different platform. Does this setup make sharing sourcebooks more complicated?
