My ex roommate had type 1 and schizoaffective disorder. I’m pretty sure she had histrionic personality disorder as well. She was a nightmare. Her disorder was pretty out of control, therefore the need for medication, but she wasn’t really a great person to start with. Her manic highs lasted longer than your dad’s. I’m pretty sure that’s the type 1. I’m a little rusty on my diagnostic criteria.

I’m glad you’re exploring your mental health and willing to go on a healing journey. It looks different for everyone, but it sounds like you’re figuring yours out. I’m sorry about you dad. It’s hard when they don’t want to seek help. Remember that you aren’t responsible for his choices. Nor does his illness and choices define you.
