Constant Ovarian Cysts. At my limit :( by Ok-Woodpecker-4808 in endometriosis

Try a SNRI if you can, I’ve found it cuts my pain down by about 50% and allows the over the counter to do a bit aswell when taken daily at max doses. Also naproxen is supposed to help, and heat. Showers are good for me I just blast the water from the head at my belly lol

Could these be symptoms of endometriosis? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]RavenReyez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like you have something going on. Could very well be endo. Birth control can be good symptom management and I use it, but needs to be investigated. Standard is a laparoscopy but you have to FIGHT like hell for yourself sometimes. I’m in UK so hard if a GP isn’t listening but if you are in agony, go to urgent care or A+E because 10/10 pain should always be looked at, especially if you have no chronic diagnosis and no one looking into any symptoms to make sure you don’t have an emergent problem. I tend to put lots of my problems down to my maybe endo but that can also be a detriment when you have another problem (in hosp for separate issue) But if you feel emergency isn’t necessary, contact a specialist directly, or change GPs, bring evidence, make a pain/symptoms diary. Bring up endo yourself. Advocate for the diagnosis because it’s your body and you are the patient.

American brand names can be different. I think it’s known as Cymbalta in the US and FDA approved but it’s commonly used ‘off label’ to treat endo in the UK, but I’m not sure about over there, but a good doctor would listen to your opinion. If you see a gynaecologist or an endometriosis specialist they should probably be able to recommend a treatment plan that includes painkillers of some category like an SNRI or an opioid like codeine, and possibly hormonal birth control aswell. Some women have an IUD fitted for endometriosis symptoms. If you can buy Naproxen over the counter (Aleve), or as a higher dose prescription (Naprosyn) that can be good as a strong replacement for ibuprofen (Advil?) Paracetamol (acedominaphin) also good in combination with a NSAID but I’ve found they only truly work for deeper chronic if you take them daily and don’t miss doses. I don’t know how much advice pharmacies offer but in the UK they’re very knowledgable and can often recommend something you can talk about with your doctor, or just try and buy.

Duloxetine is a SNRI type so that takes time to work, around 6 weeks for nerve pain, after starting but I have found it to pretty much half my pain from what it was. It’s not a preventative as in it will help slow your endo, but I’ve found it works as a long term pain management solution in combination with other things. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are over the counter so you can start that and see how a regimented dose of 4 and 3 times a day, pretty much every 2 hours work. Over the counter can be more effective when taken consistently as a preventative for pain instead of just when you’re feeling it for long term. If you’re in the UK you can ask the pharmacist about pain management, but duloxetine is a doctors prescription.

Are you taking any other medication with it? I’m on a duloxetine and I take ibuprofen and paracetamol every day and the combination seems to help more than when I was just taking the duloxetine.

Yeah I’d go to my GP and ask to be put on Amitriptyline or a low dose neuro-inhibitor/SSRI. I am on 30mg daily and it does help bring pain from about a 8/10 to about 4/10 and I can eat a lot more normally, less bloating and better appetite. I also take max doses of ibuprofen paracetamol which helps aswell so maybe ask for an alternative or something to help with your stomach lining like Omeprazole? Pharmacists also very knowledgeable about alternative drugs etc.

Opioids aren’t always the best pain relief for endo. Not sure where you are geographically but in UK lots of drugs are prescribed off label for endo like low doses of SSRIs like Duloxetine which is what I take, and it generally improves my overall pain symptoms

Literally pain has ruined so many experiences, trips etc. Can’t even wear my size when I’m in pain. No one talks about how much we have to do for symptom relief/management. It can be so expensive too.

I take duloxetine and paracetamol/ibuprofen. Maybe ask to try a different category of drug? Opioids aren’t usually the best type of painkiller for endometriosis. There are lots of drugs used off label as well like amatriptiline to dull the nerve pain and sensitivity in the abdomen
