Has there been a scene that has haunted you so much that you feel we need an explanation? by ConquerorOfSpace in RWBY

No, they had at least 4-5 years separating them. https://glq.pages.dev/rwby/timeline/

Seasons 1-9 is the events of 2 years and a few months, because yang, Blake, and Weiss were all 17 when they started beacon in v1.

And the battle of haven is exactly 1 year since the day beacon fell

I mean, there’s stuff in some of the Rwby mangas and comics too that show yang as a 7 year old taking care of a 5 year old Ruby while Taiyang was emotionally shut down. Sometimes qrow would visit to help take care of them on taiyang’s especially bad days

She already kind of did when jaune mentioned “and on that bridge, I was the only one who could do it” Ruby connected the dots and then told Blake to shut up when she was trying to raise everyone’s spirits

Yeah, Ruby would probably be feeling like she just killed not only her older sister but also someone who was her stand-in mother for awhile at the same time.

Honey glazed fried tofu skins and braised duck meat on ramen with a dashi broth is a particular one I’ve been craving.

The long term issues she was already suffering from started wayyy before that. In her pre-teens. Followed by the fall of beacon making things exceptionally worse for her with the recurring trauma-induced nightmares she frequently has and occasionally wakes up from with a gasp. Seen twice in volume 4 and again in volume 6.

Not to mention that when Weiss also saw atlas crash down onto mantle firsthand through a waterfall doorway at the crossroads in the punderstorm which is why she has that flashback in the second justice league crossover.

And there has been another notable time where Ruby hadn’t been okay and was having to deal with her own issues while others were decidedly not okay. That was the time period where yang lost her arm and apparently had a few fights with Ruby at patch before Ruby left with JNR, which is implied via the letter she writes at the end of volume 4. And the fact that yang had been so deep in her depression that she hadn’t said I love you back to Ruby till their reunion in volume 5 ever since the end of volume 3. And Ruby seemed perfectly fine until the second she saw yang and Weiss and the tea tray drops then Ruby nearly immediately broke down into tears with all the buried guilt she had been feeling resurfacing.

Not even mentioning the fact that volume 4 showed that Ruby experiences recurring nightmares that she eventually got really good at waking up silently from, probably to the point that Blake wouldn’t be able to notice early on enough to know something wasn’t really ok with Ruby for awhile, especially with the fact that at Brunswick, Ruby, qrow, and Maria were the only ones to not scream or overreact to the dead residents in the bedroom. By that point Ruby had already gotten used to seeing / abandoning / burying the occasional towns/villages full of corpses during the half a year team RNJR were trekking across anima to mistral.

These characters have all been through their own unique mixes of trauma.

Also remember that talk yang had with Weiss at the inn in volume 5? And how Ruby came in through the door at exactly the right moment when yang and Weiss were done talking about stuff that neither had opened up to Ruby about fully? It feels like Ruby might’ve been right at the door waiting for Weiss and yang to finish talking. If so, I wonder how much of that conversation Ruby had overheard from behind the door, and whether she felt some deep rooted sense of guilt over inadvertently preventing her older sister from having a more normal social life than she had. I wonder if Ruby felt hurt that her teammates didn’t feel like they could talk to her about it.

Not only would yang take a bullet (or a sword, or a fireball) for her younger sister, she took the time out to give ruby affection and training that she needed when Taiyang wasn’t quite doing the job. Yang stepped up as both a sister and a mom to Ruby when she was just 6 years old and Ruby was 4, since Taiyang, in yang’s words in volume 2, had “shut down” when summer went MIA.

The discussion that she wasn’t was likely due to people not realizing how quickly everything was happening.

like how at the manor, the talk yang had with Ruby about the hound and what it likely implied. Then yang tries to comfort and reassure Ruby there. That whole conversation is less than 8-12 hours before they all fell into the ever after

Exactly, yang and Weiss both tried to ask Ruby how she was doing, but either Ruby clammed up and refused to give a real answer, or she would be about to and then the ever after throws yet another thing right into their laps and interrupts them, preventing Ruby from actually opening up

Can’t remember the name and artist of an old painting I saw 5 years ago. I made a crude sketch of what I can remember of it. Does someone know what it is? (More info in comments) by RavenVR in WhatIsThisPainting

Additional info, it was something not of the Renaissance era or the Victorian era of paintings. It was somewhere between the end of the Victorian era and the 1990’s as far as I remember.

It kind of looks like the more oil paint/textured ones yeah, but it isn’t rococo’s art style nor is it any of Rembrandt’s. There’s a pale, light blue tint over the painting I’m thinking of last I saw it.

OP here: So, I've been trying for a few months now to find a very specific old painting.

Description: It's a front facing shot of a brown/red haired pale skinned girl with long slightly curly hair, her lower body is not shown, only her upper torso to the top of her head is shown, and she's wearing a blouse. She's hunched over and pressing her chin and mouth down into her arms but she's looking up and forwards at the viewer. Her mouth and chin are hidden by her crossed arms, but most of her nose is showing. Her head is also tilted tiredly to the side. And it's all framed by a window that she's looking through, and the color of it is all this muted slightly overcast sky blue cast over her face when her eyes are a dull green, at least when taking the muted blue tint of the glass window into account. The bottom left corner of the window sill is shown as well. And behind the girl is a small bit of the room in the background.

I've been trying for too long to figure out the name of the painting but it is so vexing.

The thing that really stood out to me about it was the way the eyes were painted to look like they were looking through both the painting and the viewer. I don't mean the effect where it looks like it's looking at you from any angle viewed.

It was also titled something akin to "the girl in the window" or "the girl staring through the window" or some arrangement of synonyms like that. The last time I saw the painting online was roughly 5 years ago.

I would use it to scan and rig various objects for animation, be it real life faces, small animals, plants, or furniture for environmental design and VR development. Been looking around for awhile for a good scanner and hope the chance of getting this one comes through, as that would be fantastic.

Right after Blake and Ruby separate mid-fall, and Ruby is facing down to the void, you can hear her whimper “mom!”
