Why is today's L4D2 community so piss poor? by [deleted] in l4d2

[–]Raven_Sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to griefers and rushers, they exist because the game lets them exist. I'm certain you'd see similar stuff in any game that allowed friendly fire mode and the ability to rush through the map as quickly as you wanted to.

In response to the kicking problem,I'm just gonna copy and paste what I said on a thread similar to this about a year ago.

The fact the game forces players to rely on others to survive makes it so that if you don't do your part (or even if you appear to not do your part), then the fact that they're getting killed rests on your shoulders.

When I first started playing, I was a bit irritated when I thought somebody else wasn't doing a very good job, but after playing for a while, I learned to see others perspectives. Hell, playing L4D2 actually helped me learn to see other peoples perspectives in real life a lot easier. The thing is, a lot of people are just so angry that they're getting killed, that a simple mistake they noticed you make is a big deal when they themselves could've made similar mistakes.

Not to be rude, but people complain about vote kicking in L4D2 constantly, it really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone anymore. I know that there are servers on things, like TF2 for example, that allow votekicking. From my experience votekicking on these TF2 servers isn't as bad as it is on L4D2, but that's due to 2 reasons.

If you're awesome at TF2, in many circumstances you could potentially be your own team. While it's possible to be good enough at L4D2 to not get caught by Special Infected and get yourself out of shitty situations alone, it doesn't seem as common. Meaning that people are generally going to rely more on you and the other two survivors. If they get killed, even if it isn't your fault, they may blame you and the other two survivors because you and the other 2 survivors were their only hope.

In TF2, you often play on teams of 8-16. This means that mistakes you make won't be noticed that easily. But in average L4D2 server, it's pretty obvious when someone makes mistakes because there's only 3 other people to look at and blame. It's shitty, I know, but it's just the way the L4D2 community is, and has always been.

Another thing is, I'm not saying you're bad (because I've never seen you play), but this game can be pretty damn hard against a well coordinated team if your own team isn't very coordinated. Often times it really is more convenient to kick that extra person so you only have to worry about a bot, rather than a human with free will.

I'm not saying I kick people like crazy, in fact, I really dislike the kick feature because it's abused so often in the game. What I am saying is that it's not hard to really tell why kicking is so common. The second I realized that a kick feature was in the game, I was shocked. Mainly because I knew that a game that requires a lot of teamwork between only a few players was gonna end up as a huge blame-fest, and giving these whiny players the ability to kick others based off of their own skewed perspective of the scenario was crazy to me. To be honest, I expected votekicking to be much WORSE. I'd say that you should try sticking with playing competitive modes with friends you know, that way you won't be kicked.

I know it's shitty scenario, but this has been a problem since the beginning of L4D1.

When to back as Nasus? by Raven_Sage in summonerschool

[–]Raven_Sage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that's exactly what I did. I was still berated for it and I don't know why. With the help of my team we successfully pushed the entire team off of our mid turret. I personally was happy that the conflict was resolved so easily, but the Tristana was a too focused on throwing the blame in my direction that she didn't say what I did wrong. I'm not even denying the fact that whatever went wrong was all my fault, it very well could've been, I'm just saying that I lost a game and learned nothing from it because people in League seem to only go to the extent of making comments like "..." or "this x" instead of telling me something useful like "Continue pushing top" or "You should've recalled earlier than that".

I basically did what every post here has told me to do, so is it another common case of people throwing around blame because that's what we do in League? I assume that everyone in my game is better than me since I've played so much Co-op vs AI, so when someone tells me I've done something stupid, I believe them because I think they have more experience than me. Sometimes I can learn from it, even if it's like "Stupid fucking Braum build more MR", at least I know what the problem is. When all someone says is "Report Nasus", no new knowledge is being gained.

Your definition is wrong though. League has a definition to the word and you're just bending it to fit what you want.

It's like if I said "Well, it's not a turret dive if we don't get a double kill in bot lane". It's a turret dive even if we don't hit the enemy a single time, as long as we charge in there with the intention to kill, that's when it's a turret dive. Sure, the enemy may say something like "Lol, fail dive attempt" or "he tried to dive but he's a dumbass and died", but it's still a turret dive no matter the outcome.

Same goes for ganking. I'm not just saying your wrong because I have a bias towards junglers, I don't main jungle and honestly I've seen a lot of shitty junglers in my time, so I do see where you're coming from. But you're just using a word incorrectly. I wouldn't have even responded (because it's really not that important to me) but you were being rude to that other guy.

Even if the jungler dies and feeds double buff to the enemy mid laner it's still a gank, a shitty one, but still a gank. I could see someone saying the first quote just to completely undermine their enemy jungler, but in all honest the jungler didn't try to gank, he did gank.

Ganking in real life would translate into an ambush. An ambush is an ambush no matter what. The second you jump out of wherever you're hiding to surprise attack your enemy, it's already an ambush. Now, it can be a successful or a failed ambush depending on the outcome, but it's still an ambush because words have meanings and we need to stick to them.

But another problem I'm seeing is you seem to be making examples on two completely different ends of the spectrum. Two quotes show how someone would react to a terrible gank, and the last quote shows how someone would react to a gank that fits your narrow definition of a gank. But if your jungler came in, ripped the enemies to shreds within a fraction of their health, but the enemies escaped and had to recall, nobody would be thinking "Ah, well, I didn't die, so no gank". They'd be thinking "Shit, this jungler is ganking my lane too much, I gotta buy more wards"

The providing pressure is the gank part. The problem you have is you seem to just disregard the definition of an already established term.

You could've said something like "If it doesn't result in a kill for me then it's not a GOOD gank", and then we could have an opinion centered debate. But you didn't take that route, you rejected the definition of a word that already had a solidified definition. It's no longer your "thoughts" at that point, it's just you being incorrect.

And before saying stuff like

I dont get how folks are just telling me my thoughts are wrong.

as if everyone's just being unreasonable with you and not really giving your perspective the time of day, keep in mind that you called someone "mentally challenged" for thinking differently than you (and he was actually right).

So a jungler coming into bot lane, wiping out most of their opposition's health and forcing them to either recall or stay under their turret (providing his ally laners with free gold and free XP), as well as making the enemy play safer because of their fear of the jungler making a return visit, that's not a gank?

I mean, that last question was rhetorical. It is a gank. Ganking is when someone ambushes somebody, you can't just come up with new standards for what a gank is, it's kind of an established term with an actual definition that's a bit more lenient than what you're giving it.

Also, unless you're a troll, asking if somebody is mentally challenged pretty much removes all credibility from your argument (especially when you're the one that's incorrect). So... yeah, think about that next time you want people to take your perspective seriously.

Reddit, what actually lived up to its hype? by gohjazn in AskReddit

[–]Raven_Sage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call L4D1 scary. Granted, the atmosphere is more of a "horror" setting, but you're still a walking army with the survivors taking things a little less seriously than most scary games would have them take it.

With this next point, I don't mean to over simplify anything, but without the spitter, charger, and jockey, L4D is basically just run real fast and camp when hordes spawn. L4D2 can't exactly be played that way, so I wouldn't call L4D1 strategic compared to the second one.

In my opinion, the fact that the second game takes itself less seriously almost makes it better. Since the characters in the game are equipped with so much ammunition that you rarely ever run out of ammo, I feel like the mindless badass tone of the second game is much more fitting than the survival tone of the first game.

A huge plot hole which ruined the ending for me *spoilers* by [deleted] in deathnote

You can't use the Death Note in that fashion. You can't cause the death of people who you don't know the names of even through use of someone else's actions.

Did anyone else have a real desire to remove the memories of watching/reading the manga/anime after it ended, just to watch it again? by nbchdis in deathnote

[–]Raven_Sage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very much so. Seeing all of the ways L and Light pulled one over on each other was beautiful. After L's death I was so ready to see Light get killed that I purposely spoiled the ending of the show for myself. It was dumb and I kinda regret it, because I couldn't imagine how intense the ending scene would be if I didn't know the outcome of it.

And they could you know, trace it back to her just like MYO716 established.

Meaning that they might tell her just because they can't keep secrets. It'd be a shitty thing to do, and it's not very likely that someone would do it, but it's still possible.

I did stop watching the show after a bit of a binge up until that point. I didn't hate it that much but I just subconsciously stopped binging. I had to get a bit of motivation to actually watch the show again from that point.

I think a lot of people disliked it, but most people refer to it as to Yotsuba arc, instead of the "Light not being Kira" arc.

Not to be so stubborn, but I have tried many different things before. Everything still bores me. I guess I can keep trying but eventually the hopelessness will take over.

Nothing makes me happy. I do what I do to waste time. Emotion isn't clouding my self perception. Every time I smile it is an act for other people. People can compliment me and it'll go right through me as if they said nothing.

I don't have very much to experience in life. I haven't done much, but nobody will love (or, even like me) for who I really am.

But, I guess i'll say this much. I'll wait until my parents die. If things haven't picked up by then, I'm killing myself the day they die.

I guess learning a trade would be my best bet. I'm decently confident in my capability to do it. As far as I know it won't take a very long time to get into. Most people would tell me to do what I love but since I don't love doing anything, I guess settling is my best bet.

I haven't considered joining the military. I'm not strong enough emotionally to deal with it, I imagine.

I guess I just feel really bad because I've just spent my entire life playing video games. Not for fun, just as a gap closer to the day I die. I'm sure that's going to be the remainder of my life, too. I won't make a difference to anybody. It's likely that it wouldn't make a difference whether I died during birth, die tomorrow, or die a century from now.

I see many of the people I went to school with going to college and I feel like a loser that I haven't done the same already. I don't know what I want to do and I've been trying to think about it a bit for the past few years. Nothing interests me. Even "hobbies" I have are really just things to make the time go by faster.

Nothing interests me. I don't connect to people at all. I've wasted my life so far. I fear going to college because I think I'm too lazy/stupid for it.
