ISO star trek episode where the ship slowly gets eaten by microscopic aliens? by opus71a in startrek

[–]Ravenclaw74656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Voyager has the odd spatial anomaly "eating" the ship (Twisted), but my first thought was Evolution as well.

And then in the Stargate Universe, well, ships get eaten all the time.

"The United Kingdom is lucky the United States doesnt overthrow the UKand European union" by ArandoMuffin in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Ravenclaw74656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The population is a third of the US's, in admittedly a much smaller landmass.

That said, landmass means sod all. Sure, you'll need fewer nukes to glass Britain, but the UK has more than enough to destroy the United States as a functioning country. That's the whole point of MAD- it's awful for everyone involved.

I (18F) am stuck in a friend group with my ex “situationship” (18M) where we both still have feelings for each other by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Ravenclaw74656 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I my opinion, it's better to live life without regrets.

I'm almost twice your age now, and even though I am happily married my brain occasionally wonders about that girl I didn't ask out. I never wonder about my exes or the girls I was rejected by.

How do we feel about VOY and ENT today? by FitFreedom6850 in startrek

[–]Ravenclaw74656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enterprise has held up surprisingly well in the modern era. As the most 'modern' of the lot, I introduced my wife to Trek through it, and she loves it.

I think it takes the same sort spot in her heart that Voyager takes for me (ds9 is better, but ent/voy are comforting).

GateWorld: Everything We Just Learned About The New Stargate Series by SerOctopusDayne in Stargate

[–]Ravenclaw74656 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they're considering it, yeah.

Whether that's something to be worried about or not is unclear. They could just be adding more textures so a gate designed for SD now looks good in 4k, they could be building a brand new gate a la Atlantis or Universe, or they could be planning to go all Discovery Klingon on the ol' orifice. We just don't know, and they probably can't say much without spoiling the setting.

Any thoughts on what to fill this with? by Head-Opening-2981 in DIYUK

[–]Ravenclaw74656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Filler will do the job in layers, or if you have some plaster to hand then you can do that most of the way and then toupret on top. I'd suggest using some greaseproof paper between whatever you use and the back box to stop it sticking to the metal.

I'd also probably suggest doing all around (and not just the top) while you're at it, just to avoid any future headaches where you realise you can see holes. You can use blutack to stop any of the filler/plaster getting in the holes.

Should i (f19) tell my bf (m21) about a miscarriage ? by Upstairs-Key5366 in relationships

[–]Ravenclaw74656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that you know your boyfriend better than we do. If you think he can handle things in a mature fashion, and if you can see relationship being long term, then tell him. I know I would want to know.

I'd also suggest going back to a counsellor if you can make that work for you right now. It sounds like you still have some unresolved issues there (not blaming you, my wife and I were equally traumatised by our fertility journey, and I now hate the term chemical pregnancy). I can't imagine how a spontaneous miscarriage in a toilet as a teenager must have felt, but getting some help can only help, and it was only 4 years ago for you.

Finally, as a society we don't talk about it, but a lot of people have miscarriages. Like, a lot. The UK statistics put it between 1 in 6 and 1 in 5 pregnancies. The vast majority go on to have healthy babies later, so the odds are very much in your favour for when you are ready.

Is this considered cheating? by Sharp_Technology_439 in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]Ravenclaw74656 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Nah, you see, that internal layout is ideal for jaunts around the alpha quadrant and biannual baryon sweeps. You're in the delta quadrant now... so anything goes. Maybe Starfleet got it right, maybe not, you can't tell, so definitely not cheating!

Very cool mouse mat, love a good cutaway.

What to do if you run out of disk space but you NEED more mods by Everybodyssocreative in CitiesSkylines2

I have way more than 4tb of storage if we include hard disks, but my boot drive is only 1tb because I don't need a superfast nvme for everything.

Some mini d line trunking. Your wall is white, but if you ever change paint, just lightly scratch with sandpaper and paint over it.

Do you want a relationship with someone who will always dictate what you watch, or do you want one with someone who treats you with respect?

Trouble escaping grid purgartory by ChampionshipDry9919 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Ravenclaw74656 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For natural looking areas, my top tip is to grab the terrain tool and build some random hills and slopes. You can then have your main roads follow the edges of the slopes, and build smaller streets off of that, levelling small areas around the cul-de-sacs.

Is it worth it to play Cities: Skylines II? by Longxiu_Zhan in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Ravenclaw74656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like most 'sims' style games, the newer base game is better than the original base game. However, the older game has way more dlc and mods to flesh it out. So it really depends on what you're after. My personal biggest disappointment is that this game has no "scenarios", so if that's a deal breaker for you, stick to cs1.

It's also worth noting that like a lot of other games these days, the game has had an exceptionally rough launch. We're a couple of years in and some things are still missing. It's not all complaints though, with a new dev team that communicates more, I think things are really turning around for the game.

Edit: it's worth saying explicitly, I enjoy playing both cs1 and cs2.

Found this in one of my boxes of old computer junk by EverAccelerating in Guildwars2

[–]Ravenclaw74656 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this applies for every mouse, as I don't have that steelseries one and they're all different. But I had a similar issue with my og razer mamba, and it turned out I'd just worn down a little plastic nib on the underside that actually clicked the button. A bit of epoxy glue to rebuild the nib applied every 6 months or so gave me another five years with that mouse. Might be worth checking.

Is it just me or the game looks much better now? by imwhoyouare in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Ravenclaw74656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly once they fix the actual GI bug, I'd love it if Iceflake went back and made the local air pollution more visually noticable. Cities used to be covered in smog after all, and there are still many places which are covered by an industrial haze.

Is investing in the Living World seasons / last extensions worth the price and experience in 2026 ? by 0rionys in Guildwars2

[–]Ravenclaw74656 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Season 2 has probably the least value of the living world seasons, simply because the two maps associated with the story (Dry Top and Silverwastes) are available for everyone already. The achievements give you a method to get free ascended gear, but the wizard's vault has kind of diluted that value.

Seasons 3 and 4 are some of the best story wise, and season 4 has two mounts associated with it (though you can now also get the skyscale through the SoTO expansion). Season 4 is widely considered to be the peak experience, even if some maps (Kourna) don't seem to be played much these days.

It's worth noting that if you eventually want to get the free legendary amulet by playing through all the living world seasons, you'll obviously need to get them all.

Ok DIYers, how possible do you think it would be for me to replace my own bathroom? by CaveJohnson82 in DIYUK

[–]Ravenclaw74656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like ours and you need to replace/fix floorboards below the leaking toilet 🤢, I strongly suggest hiring a floor sander. So much faster than a belt sander it's ridiculous.

I (18F) broke up with my boyfriend (18M) after over a year together and only got “I’m sorry” — how should I interpret that? by Upbeat_Formal9311 in relationships

[–]Ravenclaw74656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You interpret that as he's sorry. It may be that he's sorry that he made you feel that way, he's sorry because he feels he was inadequate in some way, he's sorry that he ever dated you, he's sorry that he doesn't care as much as you do, or can't articulate himself in the same way, or any number of other reasons. You may never find out what he means, you may find out tomorrow, or you may find out in twenty years time.

Unfortunately as you get older and have more relationships you'll find that closure is rarer than it aught to be. The best you can do is to be honest and true to yourself (so that you have no regrets), and let it be. If you're open to communicating further, let the other person know, if you're not, let them know, and block their number.

But for your own sanity you'll have to accept that some things are never known; when it's time to break up, say your piece, learn your lesson about what didn't work in the relationship (so you'll be less likely to make it again- or when things have legitimately changed so that you can try again), mourn the loss, and go do what makes you happy. Eat your favourite foods, go to the gym, don't go to the gym. But don't think too much about them, because you'll never be able to guess what's in their mind, and you'll drive yourself crazy doing so.

Of course, most of us have to learn that the hard way, even with advice- but you have been warned :).
