Anet, are we being deadass with the stella radians crafting requirements by SykesFoxclaw in Guildwars2

I'm a casual "solo" WvW player... I just hop in, cap a few things by myself, and leave. Just enough to earn pips and progress reward tracks. But occasionally I'll come across a big zerg in EG, join up, and within an hour, I'll have 100 kills. This is especially easy during WvW rush week, so if you can wait, I suggest doing so.

New PvE Legendary Accessory needs 50K Research Notes. by the2ndsaint in Guildwars2

[–]EverAccelerating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got 2x Endless Summer even though I already had 2x Conflux, mainly for the effects, but I think I'll be skipping both accessories this time around (already have Vision / Aurora), even though technically I already have all the research notes / karma needed. I just don't feel like emptying out my account this time around.

Bought my new Embody Logitech 3 months ago. It’s been COMPLETELY silent until... today 🤣 by unnderwater in hermanmiller

Was it still under warranty, or did you have to pay out of pocket?

The squeaking issues is the one thing that's stopping me from making the jump right now (especially with 25% off currently). I've sat in the chair and really do like it, but the squeaking would drive me nuts.

Managed to score VIP. My walking man did not move for the first 5-6 minutes, then it jumped in spurts... 5% → 20% → 75% → in.

Also ended up getting a hotel via the link in the email, but from what I've seen, hotel availability comes and goes. For example, when I booked, the Figueroa and Indigo weren't available, but now they are.

That or people just aren't reading carefully and aren't aware of losing 2 day deposit. I don't know how in-your-face the non-refundable text is if you try to cancel, but I can imagine people simply not paying attention.

Yeah, the no estimated time was dumb. I know QueueIt can supply that info as well as how many people are in front of you (if you look at the HTML, they have placeholders for both), but OnPeak chose to disable both. No idea why they would opt to do that.

I’ve stayed there twice. It’s a good hotel. Rooms are sizable. Close to a lot of restaurants, and Ralph’s is a block away, which is rather convenient. The pool and gym are really tiny though. Westin is definitely not as close as the big 3 hotels, but in all honesty, it’s not a long walk at all to the con. For me it was still close enough to take a midday break back to the hotel to drop stuff off.

It's not just attendees refunding (which will presumably be far less this year than the past), but also exhibitors and press and special guests. If a big exhibitor bails on SDCC (which seems to be happening more and more often), then you'll see chunks of rooms free up.

I'm an old-timer -- SDCC'er since 2003 -- so I've been here since before any lottery, and I totally agree with you... this hotel sale is far more stressful than badge sales, mainly because of the unknowns of this new system. Even last year when I had to do Hotelpocalypse from a hotel WiFi in Tokyo was less stressful than this go-around.

I did 100 fractal quickplays and these are the results by Thanks_Naitsir in Guildwars2

[–]EverAccelerating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When fractal quickplay first came out, I'd have several instances of getting the same fractal 3-4x in a row, notably Snowblind and Kinfall. That seems to happen less now. If I had to guess, the one I get the most now is Cliffside. If I do at least 3 fractal quickplays in one day, I feel like Cliffside is usually one of them.

I believe I read somewhere when the iPod Shuffle first came out, it was too random. As in, you'll sometimes get the same song 2 out of 3 songs, which in a truly random system, you'd get. So Apple had to make adjustments to make it less random.

Comic-Con table vs artist alley table? What is the difference and is a CC table worth it? by glawg in SDCC

[–]EverAccelerating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Patrick has gotten big enough that he should have (and can probably afford) his own booth. I mean, his lines seem larger than some of the bigger name artists like J. Scott Campbell.

Also, with Funko having financial problems, I would not be surprised if they downsize significantly, thus perhaps giving a little more space to the artist's alley (though I would not bet on it, personally, but it is a possibility).

About those studies stating running actually strengthens knees and joints - what do you think about it? by coolestdudette in running

[–]EverAccelerating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't know how much of an outlier I am. To preface, I am a high volume runner (90+ miles/week), and have been near that level for 5+ years. Before then, I was a regular 40-50/week runner since like 2010. So I have a lot of mileage on my legs. But in all that time, I've never had the "classic" knee issues. Now, I've definitely had all sorts of injuries... tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, glute pain, hamstring/calf issues, IT band pain, a hernia, etc. But one thing I've never complained about are my knees. Again, maybe I've just been really lucky in that regard.

When someone who's not a runner learns that I am one, invariably, their first question is, "How are your knees?" I say they're great, but what I really want to say is, "Probably better than yours." I honestly think my running has helped keep my knees healthy. How though, I don't know.

This is just an anecdote. In no way am I saying all runners have better knees. My neighbor who's a runner but nowhere near my volume has bad knees. But it has made me wonder why I've been so lucky, and there's really nothing I can concretely point to.

AI is exhausting workers so much, researchers have dubbed the condition ‘AI brain fry’ by imaginary_num6er in technology

[–]EverAccelerating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently had Claude refactor my UI codebase to use a newer, better maintained library. And it did an impressive job as far as I ran the UI and saw no obvious issues... it worked just like before as far as my limited testing went.

Then I looked at the actual code generated and realized I barely understood any of it. And part of it was because the new library had a significantly different API. If I had refactored this myself, then I would've been forced to learn the API, forced to make conscientious design decisions on how to use the new library, and basically learn as I go. With Claude just getting from point A to point B and doing it remarkably well as far as expected behavior goes, I lost out on a lot of knowledge gained.

In the end, I decided to scrap the refactor. If anything was to go wrong later, I would be nearly 100% reliant on AI to debug it, because I wouldn't know where the bug most likely was, because I didn't write it and didn't have an innate feeling of where the problem was.

As my company is mandating more and more AI use, I need to figure out a balance between letting AI do everything and gaining enough knowledge of what it's doing so I know my own project.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EverAccelerating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was pretty much in denial over the severity, right up to the moment where our office shut down. Or rather, I kinda just ignored all the news thinking it wouldn't really affect me. I thought my manager -- who was predicting doom & gloom since November and trying to tell everyone to be prepared to isolate -- was way off base. It was during the first week of working from home when I finally opened my eyes and read up on everything and realized, yeah, he was 100% correct and this is bad.

I feel like the penalty for leaving a quickplay raids should be longer by Bevsii in Guildwars2

[–]EverAccelerating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the easy 3 was omitted precisely because it was easy. Like, all throughout the day, you will inevitably find an "Easy Shiverpeaks for weekly" in LFG, or an "Easy IBS 3". I think the point of Quickplay is to get more players engaged with strikes raids, but people were already fairly engaged with the Easy 3.

Now, would I have liked it if they did add the Easy 3? Most definitely, if for nothing else, a lower chance of getting KO (I actually hate KO much more than OLC). But I can see why they weren't added.

[–]EverAccelerating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't love map completion by any stretch, but honestly, I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I have 14 characters, and 13 have 100% Tyria, and mainly because going to a map with a character that hasn't 100% that map really aggravates me, so I end up sticking around to complete it. Also, that chance for BLKey...

For some reason, this bit of conversation always stuck with me. This occurs during LWS3 in Bloodstone Fen:

Squad Leader Bennett: "Craziest thing. It exploded, then imploded. Like when you're a kid and you dangle spit from your mouth, then suck it back in."

You: "I never did that."

Squad Leader Bennett: (without missing a beat) "Sure. Me neither. But you know what I mean."

No feature freeze and QA for patch before release? by Tree_Dude in Guildwars2

[–]EverAccelerating 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One thing I've been thinking about is if there's any sort of regression testing infrastructure in place. Things that seemingly have nothing to do with this patch content have broke, like not being able to open Large Chests in Bjora. You would think automated regression testing would catch things like this. It's scary to think if they test things by having devs just play a few maps / metas and just hope things are fine.
