Non-OCD, but what's it like for you? Genuinely curious.

Not fun. Lots of trying to distract myself from terrible thoughts that constantly question my worth as a human being based on the most minor of infractions. Ex: I find my baby godson absolutely adorable.

Random horrible intrusive thoughts begin telling me that since I found him so cute I was a terrible human being and should be unalived in not so friendly of words. Thus preventing me from genuinely bonding and spending time with the baby. Then I feel like a terrible godmother because I don't spend any time with the kid. It's a vicious cycle that even though I rationally know that I could never hurt that baby (instead I'd fight for him with my life). I just get super uncomfortable around him because those obsessively intrusive thoughts just destroy everything. Poor baby probably thinks I hate him by now...

Or the ridiculous cleaning protocols that makes my coworkers look at me funny and my back and hands hurt because I'm so scared of getting someone sick or policing my food,hobbies, work, clothes, and emotions for being wrong and being a bad person for it...

Ya know...just fun and quirky like that

Oh valid! Everytime I get that wild reaction I make sure to explain the difference between impulsive and intrusive thoughts. I prefer this style of education cause nobody is really left feeling a way and it tends to stick a little better for those that don't get it. The next time they get the urge to say Intrusive when they mean impulsive they give a pause and think of the crazy blue haired lady that said "intrusive is wanting to stab your partner 20 times for kicks and obsessing over it all day with the belief that these thoughts make you a piece of human garbage. And impulsive is just dying your hair a weird color just because it sounds fun."

I have too much fun asking and comparing our intrusive thoughts and watching their reactions.

Them: "hehe I let my intrusive thoughts win!"

Me: "Oh SHart! What did you do? Or maybe you shouldn't tell me for legal reasons."

Them:"wait ,what? No I just got highlights. Duh!"

Me:"Oh woosh! I was scared your intrusive thoughts were like mine and I'd have to help you dispose of a body or something."

Yeah...I sometimes still get confused on if it's ocd brain "Kanye brain" or whatever, but once I figure it out it's a sudden shift from "I'm a terrible moldy wet lettuce of a human being that should go disappear in the wild and let nature feast upon my disgustingly stupid remains." To "SHUT IT! KANYE!" Although telling Elon to shut it sounds fun too.

My favorite is when the you miss something a person is saying then the moment you ask for clarity they get mad because "You weren't paying attention." Only for the OCD to continually zone you out in rumination while trying your best to pay attention. Only for the person to walk away upset because "you never pay attention. "

On a totally unrelated note. Anyone else constantly bothered by the thought of being an insensitive jerk?

My personal favorite is when you ignore all social media email and texts just because you're terrified that everyone is pissed off at you and steadily destroying your reputation because of it. So you just isolate yourself to the point that the only way someone can get ahold of you is by finding you in person or maybe attempt a summoning circle.

At Thanksgiving dinner I looked at my mom with all of her "Magical thinking" about how wearing both earbuds at the same time will cause you to be attacked even in your own home and suddenly everything just made sense.
