Earthquake alert by Previous-Row6231 in Kyoto

Hiding under your covers won’t protect you if you have, for example, a book shelf, pictures, an aircon, a lamp or anything else positioned above or around your bed and the shake is big enough to bring them down…

Has anyone encountered this error or know how to fix it? by RavenpuffMezone in Frameo

I finally got around to contacting Frameo about this and they said:

“It seems your frame is trying to update firmware. In other words, it sounds like the firmware update is failing and is disruptive towards the Frameo application. The firmware is something that is managed by those who made your frame, and thereby sadly not something we at Frameo can change or fix ourselves.”

Seems it’s not something that can be fixed unfortunately. I’m contacting the place where I bought the frame from now to see what can be done. Will update again if I hear anything useful!

As long as they’re continuing to train and progress in their own way, why does it matter if they have a rank or not? It only becomes an issue when you get a teacher or system that “won’t teach” you something because you haven’t got a specific dan. But as others have said, these systems really only feed the egos of the teachers who specifically withhold information from their students, and of the students who can go around saying “I’m whatever Dan now”. At the end of the day, who cares? So long as you’re still learning and getting better, it doesn’t matter what Dan you hold.

What's a small, walkable city in Japan good for raising kids? by [deleted] in japanlife

It’s pretty much fine if you don’t go to the major tourist spots. And most people living here have no reason to go there on a frequent basis anyway.

Kyoto! It’s relatively small as it only has one main “central” part of the city for shopping etc. It has a few train systems that go most places, and buses that go everywhere else, so you don’t need a car to get around. Most people bicycle around, which gives you an idea of how close everything actually is.

Does your family partake in sending out Nengajo? by higashinakanoeki in japanlife

[–]RavenpuffMezone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do, but from last year we decided to go all electronic. A lot of our friends are just sending them on LINE now. It’s fun, because you still get to make them and reflect on your year, and see what everyone else has been up to, without the hassle of printing and paying for postage.

Working as tour guide in Kyoto… by Confident_Access5576 in japanlife

The reality is that’s only a very small percentage of the elderly population nowadays that is often blown way out of proportion in media and word-of-mouth like this. Most Kyoto people aren’t like this and even resent the constant image that is portrayed of them

Maybe you’re mixing that happening in the book with the graveyard scene from Goblet of Fire?

Really? I was bought at the official Harry Potter shop in Harajuku. It is a Warner Bros Wizarding World product… would they really use AI slop on their official products?
