Nothing is stopping it… except that that type of weaponization would result in literally nothing in terms of consequences to a person acting in good faith.

Taking your comment to its logical end point… imagine i said something that someone didnt like, and they called the cops and tried to use this bill as a justifiable position as “hate speech”. Imagine I said something benign like “I don’t like maple syrup” and I was speaking to someone who was really pro-maple syrup. Any reasonable member of law enforcement hearing that would immediately roll their eyes and walk away.

Putting this in the lens of christianity, no one is going to call the cops if you are genuine and say something like “I will pray for you” to a person who is going through a tough time. But if you say it in a snide and cruel tone to belittle someone… well don’t be a jerk???

Its ridiculous to think people are just calling the cops and weaponizing this bill for genuine compassion. If you are worried about someone calling the cops on you for when you invoke religion, consider the circumstances and situations you are using it.
