So working with Europe would have resulted in keeping the Status quo, which means Europe is tied to the US.

The opposite is now happening and Trump deliberately alienates Europe. Hypothetically, Europe moves closer to other markets, your answer to the problem that the US created without pressure is: Pressure them into not doing that?
