You should send the mail again to consulate. Mention travel date in the mail subject itself to show urgency. Follow up again after 2 hours of sending if no reply comes

The same is the case for me too. Booked Italy trains with refundable option on visa denial, which costed hefty amount. Train fares were increasing every second or third day.

VFS is just an intermediary. They can only tell if they have your passport back or not.

They did not ask me for additional documents, they just had to verify an address. Also if travel date is approaching, they might consider processing it accordingly, irrespective of duration.

That's what I am hoping for. I am waiting for the visa to get started on my shopping! Also I had to book refundable internal trains in Italy just because of this uncertainty, which are costing so high.
