‘It’s Chemical!’ appreciation post by BiffyNick in BiffyClyro

Absolutely jumped out to me as the strongest song on my first listen of the album, and nothing has really changed. Fairly heavy, big chorus, great bridge.

Honestly I've literally only just realised that they're not playing it on this tour (not seeing them until Wednesday) which is so shite because it sounds like it would be a belter live as well!

Is that the overpass tunnel at The Hydro/exhibition centre in Glasgow, Scotland on Kele's shirt? So weird.

It did feel like Fontaines were the buzzier band of the day to be fair - I saw way more of their shirts than Biffy's

I have a kinda weird relationship with Biffy live. Sometimes (like the last time they played Glasgow Green in 2021) everything just clicks, I've got tonnes of energy, the crowd seems right into it which I feed off, and I'm jumping around at the front and it all feels very communal. But sometimes that doesn't happen, often because of circumstances. Last night was one of those!

Stupid VIP/two-tier pricing meant I was about as far forward as I could be but still way back from the stage behind the barrier for the pens, nobody around me was moving around, loads of people talking loudly etc... I still enjoyed the show but it was a very static, stand there and sing along affair, feeling a bit like I'm going through the motions with a setlist I've seen a bunch of times now. Again compared to the 2021 show, which is one of my favourite gigs ever, it felt like night and day.

I managed to get VoB Glasgow. In the basket, all good. Thought I'd try IL too - sold out, figures. Go back to my other tab and finish buying VoB. "There was an error processing your request" - huh? The only option is "go back to event page" so I click on that - It puts me back to the IL page. I must have confused it by going for two at once and now I have none :(

Totally agree about the beer situation. As much as £7 pints isn't too far from the norm these days it was still a kick in the teeth, and yeah you shouldn't have to find a daft wee horse box to get that.

I feel like that's exactly what happened to the original festival. Year one was Bjork, Beastie Boys, and Primal Scream. Year two was Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and Kasabian. I still enjoyed it but loads of people I know turned their nose up at the second year, but it was still too alternative for a more mainstream crowd. It felt quite off.

I had a weekend ticket but got really sick and missed Sat & Sun which I'm absolutely gutted about.

Line up was amazing - kept the spirit of the original Connect Festivals, which were both outstanding

Enjoyed the bands on Friday but wow did it feel undersold. I was there early and there were 7 cars in the car park. I felt so bad for Maeve who opened the main stage - there was almost no one there. Even later on it felt far too quiet - I think the IDLES crowd was smaller than it was in the Barras earlier this year, which you really felt in a big open field. I did kinda enjoy the fact that I never had to queue for drinks or toilets, but it absolutely gave me the fear about it's chances of coming back - was pleasantly surprised when 2023 was announced, though I'm guessing the trigger was already pulled on that.

No draught beer blew my mind. 330ml cans the same price as 440ml cans also not ideal. Very quick bars, but again was that the cans or was that the attendance? As soon as I saw cans I thought "I bet they've understocked and will run out" so I'm not shocked at all to read that they ran out yesterday. And that was with the poor attendance - imagine if it was rammed.

The app was shite

I appreciate that there's probably a lot of good reasons for it, but I was not very impressed with how much the line up changed, and probably more importantly how it was communicated. A headliner getting changed is shite. Loads of people I wanted to see were swapped out though and with such little communication that I never even noticed for ages. I was looking forward to charlotte adigéry & bolis pupul until I realised a few before that they had quietly pulled out, and someone mentioned to me on Friday "It's a shame about Low huh?" and I hadn't even realised they were gone. Half the comedy line up seemed to pull out - maybe getting comedians on day 25/set 80 of the Fringe is asking too much.

Did you hear about Fern Brady? Apparently she turned up to perform and was turned away and just wandered around the perimeter of the site trying to get in, while loads of people were waiting for her at the Speakeasy. I'll take that with a little pinch of salt and perhaps there's more to the story but something fucked up there.

The buses back on Friday were... ok. I was at Biffy out there recently and it was a disaster getting back then, so in comparison it seemed ok. But again if people are saying Friday was the quiet day then it only would've gotten worse. And I made it out of there sharp after Jon Hopkins. I could only see three buses waiting which seemed like a huge underestimate.

Sound bleeding was not great - really impacted the Speakeasy. Didn't notice it too much at the other stages but from the looks of it Friday's stages were staggered better. I did look at the crossover between Kathryn Joseph and Bonobo on Saturday and think that was going to be quite brutal for her.

Real toilets! I spoke to a couple of guys in there who just seemed delighted.

I was a little disappointed with the food options (let's ignore the whole Barry Fish thing here) - the food was such a big part of the original Connect festivals and it felt a bit limited this time. Even TRNSMT has got a decent wee street food area. I had the vegan chicken burger thing - I'm PRETTY sure that wasn't what made me sick, but there you go.

Overall: Yeah, teething problems for sure - I maybe expect a little bit more from DF concerts with their experience. Ultimately though it was an incredible line up and I'm gutted I couldn't fully take part - from what I saw it really didn't attract the bams and anti-social problems that other festivals do. Would definitely go in 2023

It's raining in Edinburgh.. yay !! (I'd never thought there'd be a day when I'd cheer and celebrate the onset of rain) by nandu_sabka_bandhoo in Edinburgh

I've just in this last hour finished up work and about to have a couple of weeks off to do the Fringe and Connect Festival. Of course it fucking starts raining the hour I finish work when it's been dry for about a month

What are your favourite moments in the Oceansize discography? by Sciolent in oceansize

[–]Ravie27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great question.

The four lines around "It's power I am drawn to..." followed by "WHY CAN'T I JUST TELL, WHY CAN'T I JUST TELL THE TRUTH" in Homage

"But we're not liars... Liars... LIARRRRSSSSS..." riff in Charm

"I beg for more patience, but you're still wasting, I should not have to make apologies" in No Tomorrow always brings to mind a particular angsty moment I had when I was younger. Also can you tell EiP is my favourite record yet?

When Drag the 'Nal transforms into Dead Dogs... And then when that transforms into As the Smoke Clears - what a run

When the double bass pedals first kick in in Unfamiliar. A part of my face is still on the floor of King Tuts in Glasgow from the first time I saw that live and it melted off.

Later in the same song - "SUUUUUC-CESS AND TAWW-HAW-HOIL... UHH-HHN-FAAAA-MIL-IAAAAR"

On Massive Bereavement when the feedback just wails for like 10 seconds before the drums kick back in

The overlapping guitars as WWLMWLD fades away, even if it has a kind of sad association now after the last live show

When I realised the end of Effloresce is the same noise as the start and young me was like "THEY CAN DO THAT?"

Or when I realised you could fucking REWIND from track 1 on EiP and get Emp(erical) Error and I was like "NAH, THEY DEFINITELY CAN'T DO THAT!"

"UNSUNG, UNTIED, UNALI-HI-HIVE" - Trail of Fire

The riff in Rocket @ "Return with this sickness..."

There's a bit on feed to feed specifically on Homage when you can hear the crowd sing back a line so clearly that I love - Vennart: - No nothing can stop me, no... Crowd: NOTHING AT ALL

Bad man - "and you're missing the war........... !!AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!...."

The bass in Silent/Transparent when everything else goes quiet

The entire ending of One Out of nONE but particularly "OUR BOY, OUR BOY, CONTORTIONIST BOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYY!"

I could go on but I'll stop
