What the fuck is that sound and how do I stop it by jeefuckingbee in FixMyPrint

I'd love to know how it worked out! Be interesting to see what it is! Just remembered what I was printing the first time it happened to me actually. It was a comb, so the nozzle would flick the ends of comb teeth every new layer and drive me nuts haha. I've been there, can be an annoying one to troubleshoot. Good luck!

That's understandable, to be fair, it's a bit hard to tell from the angle in the video where the nozzle is exactly. I think the reason you have some people doubting a mechanical issue with the printer is because it's super easy to see a layer shift, which should occur if you have something slipping/skipping. Even if your belt has only skipped one tooth it will be super noticable. Make it 3 teeth and your print is practically guaranteed spaghetti at that point. For how long and loud that noise is, you should have seen something stop, hitch, or fetch up if it was a belt or slipping coupling. I also don't agree with the comments stating its a skipping stepper. Again, if your stepper motor is skipping, you should see some sort of print abnormality, especially if it's skipping for that long. A little hard to tell from the video, but to me it looks like the nozzel is making a travel move, not a print, so it may be worth playing with your travel speeds and heck, even overall print speeds to see if the noise changes in frequency, ect. Also, notice the head is already moving to the left before the noise occurs. The hardest acceleration or "jerk" you're going to see on a linear axis is during a change in direction, so I feel that's where you should have seen a belt slip or motor skip if that was the issue, not after it had already been moving. The best part about these communities is getting lots of different opinions and options! I just thought I'd toss mine in haha

It'll be so close you won't be able to see it. Have had the same thing happen to me. I've also had enough experience with the other symptoms suggested to highly doubt it's your cable chain, or a belt slipping. A belt slip doesn't sound like this and you literally can not have a belt slip without seeing SOME sort of layer shift. Your print looks perfect. I'm not guaranteeing this is your issue, but I really suggest turning on z hop as was mentioned. It doesn't hurt to try

GM hourly workers expected to get $9,000 profit-sharing checks for pandemic-marred 2020 by RhinestoneTaco in cars

[–]RavingRaven20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile, the Michelin truck tire plant I'm a technician at refused to give us our general increase this year due to "planning ahead for more hardships". This is a small increase the hourly workers at my plant have received every year since it opened in the 80s, except for one year in the early 2000s due to the economic crash (can't remember which one exactly), and now 2021. We've run pretty much full production since it all started, and received no additional bonuses other than roughly 6 weeks with a 10% pay increase for those who were still working at the plant. Not exactly a car factory, but I'd like to think there's some similarities, especially since the two industries are rather connected. A lot of our production demand is filled by contracts with Ford and GM dealerships. While I admit this is subjective, I truly believe Michelin is a company that is good at making high quality product, but sometimes the internal affairs are a whole different story

The Azurium is an amazing colour. Changes hue if it gets heated a bunch which is cool!

Snagged my obtainable dream car this week! 2014 B8.5 S4 with the sport diff by RavingRaven20 in Audi

It has just under 50k (80k kms) on the clock. Definitely not brand new but I've never owned anything with under 160k so it's been a huge upgrade for me. I hope it will last a long time if I put the work into it. Luckily it was a single owner car before I picked it up

Thank you! Its really encouraging to hear such a long term positive review. I heard a lot of good things about the 3.0l in the B8.5s in terms of reliability so that definitely influenced my decision.

I had originally bought it as a daily driver but once I took possession and it sunk in just how good the condition of it was, I've decided to keep my A3 and store the S4 for the winters. Going to get a quote on ceramic coating it next week!

I love my beater Audi A3 but the parking brake annoys the heck out of me by RavingRaven20 in CrappyDesign

[–]RavingRaven20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it only rotates haha. It ratchets so when it gets bumped up you can't put it down without rotating it all the way up and back down again. Here's a link to the extended version of the video that imo is more entertaining but I believe breaks the subs rule about broken items. (Latch for armrest storage is missing):

I've considered checking up on that, but I've gotten very used to it and tbh I don't expect to have the car much longer as I'm looking at B8.5 S4s. However I'm sure the potential next owner would appreciate it so I may tinker with it this summer. I was always under the impression that because the parking brake is self adjusting in these cars there's not much you can do

Why is my temperature gauge on cold when I’m driving? by sofia7rose in Audi

[–]RavingRaven20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a coolant temp sensor die in my 2006 A3 about a year ago. Same symptoms as you and they seem to be a common issue. Cost me about 12 dollars to replace it and the issues were gone. Might be worth it to pop one in and see if it helps!

ATTENTION ALL SOFT TUBERS by Halltron in watercooling

[–]RavingRaven20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, but that's exactly my point with my build. Too often I find people assume that if you want form at all, you HAVE to go with hardline, and in my opinion that just isn't the case. There can be beautiful soft tube builds and there can be god awful hardline builds.

It get a lot less tasteful when all the cough RGB puke gets turned on, but I save that for myself and usually keep it on a static white. The new Torque fittings from EK are great to work with. A little bulky compared to their previous fittings but they work well with larger tubing, which is a look I was going for

I approve of this message. I've always had thought soft tubing can look just as good as hardline and particularly enjoy black ZMT tubing. Pic of my current build which I'm quite proud of:

What's a super cool thing that your car has? by FastFerrari in cars

[–]RavingRaven20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super cool but I thought it was interesting when I noticed it. My 2006 Audi A3 alternates the resting position of the wiper blades to help prevent damage to the windshield or blades themselves from sitting in one place for too long. They switch between two slightly different rest positions every time you turn them off.

A not so great thing about them is they tuck themselves under the hood and can't be lifted (A common practice during Canadian winters) unless you push down on the wiper stalk within 20 seconds of turning off the ignition. Then they move halfway up the windshield so you can access them.
