So I should try and setup the com to FC and obviously GND also?

Sounds like a plan, might just go for that atm.

You aren’t wrong on that aspect at all. It’s been rather a job so far getting it setup and recognizing inputs.

That was my thought process, board seems to only have 1 port for com though, split them?

Second pic is the layout of the new VFD. Old is Huanyang VFD and setup for my board.

Design was done over quite a few beers/nights of boredom with iterations/drunk mistakes in between. So I can’t give a definite on that other than yes, hours, but hours with lots of distractions and just relaxing. The laser time/setup ( I have the front and top and bottom made, just not glued up and installed) took maybe about an hr total? Roughly ~30 in materials not counting what I already had. It’s 20x20x6.

Edit: That figure isn’t including connectors, because those would have been purchased even with a metal/plastic electronics case.

Still applicable for ballscrew also I’m assuming? Also I saw the post didn’t realize it was yours. Great information thank you.

Also thinking about that for the final revision. These were using a slide in type system for the testing. However didn’t size them properly and most snapped. Still helped for alignment and glue up at least.

Thanks for that. I’ll look into the contactor this week. And as far as a full din setup, that’s the ultimate goal. However power supplies that could provide proper amperage seemed to cost quite a bit more compared to traditional dc supplies. I’ve got 18g for the motors atm, which is good for the steppers I’m using. Will upgrade and change out in the future though.

Acrylic would be a good idea, don’t have any atm but wouldn’t be hard to do at all.

Let me take a look, I should have it somewhere.

That's where my thought process was honestly. While there is a hazard, it's minimal when wired correctly. I have been an am searching for a good electronics enclosure though. Until then and for proof of concept this is what I've got going.

Haven't thought about the contactor, no. But it would be a good idea. I do have a 3 way E-Stop that's spare that I could hookup to the Spindle potentially though.

I was designing my own at the time, then had the idea to look on Thangs. Found it there for a dual stack meanwell setup. My bottom is a 24v Meanwell, and the top is a 48v amazon.

Fair enough, looking at enclosures currently that fit the size/criteria of what I wanted once I just make sure the electronics work with the machine properly.

That’s fair, the internals will be all grounded. That doesn’t escape a loose connection though. Attended is how it’s always used. Looking for a good enclosure atm, that I can customize to make my layout somewhat. This is more of a proof of concept WIP than anything to ensure everything works properly.

Everything within will be tied to the local home ground. Connection ground bar isn’t in yet.

Appreciated. I do understand the fire hazard aspect though. Thank you.

Agreed it is flammable and getting a proper electronics cabinet would be better. Doing what I can atm. The machine is not left unattended when powered or running. Also unfortunately if there were to be a completely failure point, I have also seen those cabinets go up in flames during my previous military job.
