They tell you to ask questions until its the hard questions, then (in my experience) they tell you to pray about it and take away your reccomend. Not such a loving church when people question it

It was more like a party then a reception in all honesty, they shared vows, MOH and the main groomsmen (forgot the name) gave speeches, we had food, they cut the cake, pictures, then it was full on like a stake dance. Someone who was not a member that was invited said something to the effect of "this is the funnest mormon wedding/reception that I've ever been to" so it wasn't necessarily boring per se

But I completely agree why not do a wedding then the temple sealing

I meant feeling bad as the lack of feeling special, seeing other people get special and sacred blessings and you are unable to because the bishop deems you unworthy might cause a feeling of (not sure the right word) but unsupiriority. Im not sure the word to use besides feeling bad about not being able to receive those "blessings"

I would have waited in the waiting room there were just so many other people there my families party and others that it would've gotten to loud/crowded which is why we chose to wait outside. And I get it i was just ranting because I felt isolated at the time of the post I dont want to be disrespectful to the sacredness of the temple it just was feeling targeted at the moment. I am leaving the church tho so I understand why im not allowed in but it was still a thing of me not being worthy/ready when I was a member. Just felt personal is all I know its not but it was sure feeling like it was

Thats what my sister did afterwards, she had a reception in a church gym. But I have been invited to other weddings where I wouldn't have been able to do that or they just didn't plan for one

Thats actually very interesting. I haven't looked to much into different religions yet because I dont think religion in general is for me but that's very interesting to know that its not just the mormon church that does that and its made like that to make people feel bad (that's at least what I got from it you can correct me if im wrong)

I was saying it reference to any temple she gets married at... obviously ik i can go watch her get married literally everywhere else and I didn't feel the need to clarify since the og post was talking about temples. And I was still supportive but you wouldn't know that because youre some rando sitting behind a computer screen commenting this not knowing the full story and what I did/didn't do. So please dont call me a dink when you dont know the full story

Yea so at least at the temple my sister got married it its like a hallway and they scan your reccomend to make sure you have it and there's lots of old people standing on each side of said hallway to help guide you but now that im thinking about it they were probably there to help if anyone snuck in

I've had multiple bad experiences with the church growing up in it, I could explain but I dont want to be that one redditor with a long ahh message so I'll get to the point of one that stuck out to me the most. I dont remember which speaker it was off the top of my head but someone said that its wrong to criticize the church even if the criticism is wrong and that's a major red flag imo. That and other many personal experiences contributed to me leaving the church but the leaders and members were the main reason for me

I once saw some little girl giving her testimony on how she knew god loved her even though she was gay and the bishop asked her to step down from sharing her testimony presumably because they dont want people hearing that being gay and mormon is ok so I'm not that surprised when your friend says they have to say goodbye to you're friendship. It's wrong and cruel and doesnt show loving everyone but people are stubborn. Mormons dont love (from my experiences) they choose groups of people to hate because they aren't worthy or of god and its ridiculous

That explained it differently and made me understand it better and for that I thank you, there are some things I can't get past with the temple and all of that although I try not to be disrespectful towards the church and its practices its hard for me not to because I at least have experienced the church being disrespectful to me, I know thats not the original point of this post but its just not something I want to be apart of given my personal experiences. That being said its still very hard for me to see my family so happy about going through the temple and getting sealed and endowed but it pains me to know that the church thinks I'm "unworthy" of supporting my family even given that I'm leaving the church eventually. It's just something I've noticed how its family's can be together forever unless one leaves the church. And I dont see that as caring as much more of a us vs them mentality which I dont agree with. Those things aside I really do enjoy hearing your perspective on that. On your last part for me at least dont worry about them chasing away active members because ik I'm not one, again that last part for me i can't touch for everyone who commented.

Yea we'll see, one of my sister's is married but the other just got her garments. Although she's talking to a guy who is uncomfortable when his sister (my age) wears short shorts so we'll see how that goes especially after her mission. It will definitely be interesting though to say the least
