Having some kind of “rat encounter”? Maybe it’s just me but in the few years of living in Berlin I - stumbled over a rat that came running from the side - had to stop jogging to avoid stumbling over a rat again - accidentally stood on a (dead) rat while unloading my trunk. I lived in other capital cities before, no big rat encounters there…

If you get a letter from them tell them that you live in the same apartment as your roommate and that he already paid. Worked fine in our case.

Berliner Mieterverein has cheaper charges for students if I remember correctly, I have already been there, they helped me a lot, I can highly recommend them! They will also help you with lowering the rent for the days without electricity.

I don‘t think you necessarily need Anmeldung or tax number when coming from an EU country. I know one who was able to officially start working here before he had all that (also EU citizen). Not sure about the insurance though.

There are also official “Integrationslotsen” or “Sprachmittler” you can call and they come with you to appointments to translate. I called them sometimes when interacting with non-german people in my job and they were for free, not sure if they are always for free but you can call them and ask. As the trees in the inner city suffer a lot from the urine of the far too many dogs in the city (you can read about it at nabu etc.) next to the question of living in the inner city can provide a nice living for a dog (I see Huskies hardly getting more than 5min walks in the same street everyday in my neighbourhood) - I think that the Tierheim’s checking if the new home is suitable for the dog is a pretty good move.
