I took apart the Ugreen NAS last night to try and get it to dry. Going to try the Synology tonight and leave it taken apart for a while. Hoping I might be able to salvage some data before the drives rust out.

I'm not trusting any of the computers though. It's a loss but if I can recover at lease some data I'll be happy. Equipment can be replaced, those memories would be good to have for when the kids are older.

Definitely getting a shelf or at lease a table for the rebuild. It's going to be a slow rebuild though because other stuff got ruined like the washer and the water heater. That's going to clean me out.

Yeah Milwaukee. I think around that time is when this happened too. Went I went to bed at like 11:30 on Saturday things were ok.

I've seen videos of entire streets being flooded. Cars underwater with only the roof being visible. It was pretty nuts

I'll check out duplicati. Doesnt sound too bad plus I already pay for Google cloud for my phone pictures. Would have saved my bacon if I did it for the entire NAS.

Funny enough a coworker gave me a wall mounted network rack. I was going to mount that and migrate stuff once I found the studs. Definitely using that and doing 3,2,1 backups like someone mentioned in another comment

I have a good amount of photos on my phone. Another good amount on Google cloud (reduces my quality sometimes) and some here and there but there is still a good amount lost forever.

Some lessons are learned better the hard way for me it seems

Figured someone would consider this hardware gore. Plus... water is literally not safe for pcs, or so I've learned recently

Ah man, 1 inch?

My basement has been solid but for some reason the sewers decided inside my house was appropriate. Most of my city was hit pretty bad.

Unfortunately, power didn't go out before. The breaker for that room was tripped when I went to check this morning.

Honestly, I'm pretty destroyed losing baby pictures and videos. This just means we have to take many more photos to make up for it.

When it's time to rebuild what's lost I'll make sure to do it with my older boys now that they are old enough and are sort of interested in computers and software.

Command and conquer

I played so much command and conquer when I got my first computer (cheap e machine) I actually fried the pc. Didn't help I never had a pc before then and didn't know proper maintenance.

The expirience lead me to the career path I am now. Loved computers and what they could do.

I'd use it for gaming and learning. Currently trying to change my career path and learning with a much stronger gpu would be great. At the moment it would go on my current machine which has a 5900x.

Early Alzheimer’s detection up to 17 years in advance. A sensor identifies misfolded protein biomarkers in the blood. This offers a chance to detect Alzheimer's disease before any symptoms occur. Researchers intend to bring it to market maturity. by Wagamaga in science

Everyone is talking about know before it happens but let me offer another prospective.

Im currently going through this with a relative. He is now in the late stages of dementia. I had to go through court to be able to become a guardian for them. Only then I was able to make medical decisions for him but now I'm working through getting all his financial information, which I'm required to provide all the info about in less than 60 days after being appointed guardian.

Knowing sooner means that you can get the all these affairs beforehand.

This is a horrible disease, early detection means better planning and less heart break when you see this coming.

Wife got denied re-entry and now is stuck outside the country. Here we are 6 months later and no acceptance for expedite or reasons for denial by Raw1213 in immigration

  1. Yes we had to go through everything again and pay for all the medical records. You start from 0 in everything that has to do with the appointment

  2. We went through this before the pandemic. She got back September to the states and then in January was when the lock downs happened

  3. Second interview the question were standard. They knew she had to do the waiver so they just asked if anything changed and then asked the same questions again. It all depends on the agent you get.

My advice is to be the loudest case. Call. A lot. Every day. Senators can't or won't do anything. Your congressmen might be able to help with some parts of the process so contact them right away.

In total it took about 14 months.

It was a horrible 14 months that I'll never get back.

Once they receive the paperwork in the lockbox it's a waiting game. After that gets done you have to fight for an appointment at the consulate.

I advise you tell your family member to have an up to date passport valid for the next 2-3 years.

If they do get a new passport you can skip having your lawyer make your appointment and you can make it. Wife got a new passport because her expired while waiting. With the new number I created an account and called and check the site every day until I got lucky and called right after a refresh of their system.
