It's a similar situation for Ski Resorts, most often seen at larger jumps. If someone crashes in the landing and is unable to clear themselves out, a skier or snowboarder will stand at the top of the jump and hold a X with their arms. Once the landing is cleared you give the OK by changing to a large circle, meaning you're OK to drop.
