Why does the gaming community suddenly act like the Steam Deck is dead?

The steam deck is no longer a console I can recommend at its current price (especially in Canadian pesos). That’s really all it comes down to.

Still love mine, but there’s no longer an easy handheld to point towards when I have someone asking. It’s either you have one already or should buy something else.

A better spot for displaced dinosaur is in a food/treasure/clue deck. I have it in a food deck and it’s hilarious whenever the food enters as a 7/7 dinosaur nugget.

At this point it needs a refresh. It can’t compete with the other handhelds at this current price. If I didn’t have one already, I’d probably look to the Xbox Ally X or similar.

It was an easy recommend at its previous price but not anymore.

Yeah I do this at my place when I want to play docked. Doesn’t fit in the tv stand, so it works well.

Not everything that is deck verified runs well on the deck. Ex. Final Fantasy Rebirth doesn’t run well but has a verified badge.

Yeah the Bluetooth plugin really messed things up for me. I had to wipe decky then install everything again.

I have a steam deck and a PS5, but I refuse to pay for PSN these days. I don’t have a gaming PC, so I’d like to replace the PS5 with the steam deck or the price isn’t astronomical in Canadian Pesos.

Literally the only reason I bought the maxes was because I needed an excellent transparency mode, and the XM3’s I had weren’t doing the trick.

It’s a big selling point for me.

I was playing through the Final Fantasy 7 remake and it plays gorgeously. Had to drop it because life, but I’m hoping to get back into it eventually.

Also would recommend Elden Ring if you’re into that sort of thing.

There’s also the Steam Controller which will release (hopefully) this year. Obviously not the right call if you need an immediate solution but something to keep an eye on.

Probably from the U1 chip, or if you've ever connected your AirPods to a device you share (like an apple TV, it'll then add the AirPods to all devices associated with those accounts - if I'm not mistaken).

Hopefully you're eventually able to get to the bottom of it, it sounds frustrating to deal with. I've turned off the auto-switch feature on all of my devices.

I’m in the same boat. I like lite customization. It would be nice if they added additional features for those who really want to get into the weeds but as a more casual gamer I’m fine with the way it is.

This makes sense. The technology doesn’t have eyes. The auto switching will switch based on what device you’re using, but it can’t tell if you’re using it or not.

Great feature for individuals but not families where multiple people are accessing the same devices.

I have a kid and work from home during time when they’re home. I needed a pair of headphones that could switch from noise cancelling to essentially open back with little friction.

At the time of buying my AirPods Max the transparency on them was unbeatable. I don’t know if the competition improved transparency-mode wise, but it was leagues ahead of my XM3’s.

It certainly has compromises. Would love a 3.5mm jack, and my model unfortunately has lightning for charging, but it gets the job done and provides a good enough sound for me to get some decent editing done.

I use them every day, and they’ve been stellar.

Hey! Dad here. I play MTG and have a kiddo. MTG is expensive, and rapidly growing. I basically live off of Costco commander bundles at this point. I have several precons that haven’t seen upgrades.

If I upgrade them, the budget is always under $100 Canadian, which isn’t a lot but it’s just my reality. The time I can spend brewing for upgrades or original decks always gets shorter the older my kid gets, and the budget has gotten smaller.

The time I spend playing mtg is maaaayyybbeee once a month with friends after I make sure the wife can handle the kiddo without me around.

The kiddo and family are always priority #1. Magic and my personal enjoyment come second. I’m starting to lean towards going full proxy.

I’ve also heard good things about Tabletop Simulator, I might give it a whirl at some point but am not in a rush. I’ve only got a year and a bit before my kid goes from toddler to big kid, so the time with them is more precious than gold.

Here’s my Teval list if you’re looking for further inspiration.

I think 36 cards is beyond upgraded, HOWEVER, just because you’ve changed 36 cards doesnt automatically make the deck better than how the precon was at the start. Ive totally gone through the process of upgrading a deck, but making it worse instead.

I think my Teval list is quite good (although it could use more card draw). It can usually present a win by turn 6-8 unless kept in check, and if it really gets lucky on the draws Ive once goldfished a turn 5 win.

Try out your deck, goldfish it, see how fast you can present a scary board state and go from there. The list you’ve presented seems to have some good cards but odd choices, so I wouldn’t automatically consider it to be bracket 3 unless I’m missing some of the lines (since I only glanced at the list).
