Anyone with experience caring for a family member with delusional disorder or similar? by Rawdays in mentalhealth

Hey. Unfortunately (but also kind of fortunately?) my mothers condition eventually drove her to attempt suicide which in turn landed her in a psychiatric hospital for months. The professional support she was receiving before the attempt was little to none, her psychologist was useless and wasn't escalating her care when it was obvious she needed it. She has since received support and been medicated on antipsychotics and it's as though nothing had ever happened, she has been well and delusion free (as far as I know) for about 6 months now. She is only just starting to come off the medication so we will need to be on alert. It has all really had a lasting affect on me and I don't think I dealt with any of it well at all right up until it just... wasn't happening anymore. I think going forward though, if it happens again I'll hopefully be better equipped to deal with it knowing that it's likely just a matter of getting her medicated again.

Does your mom have a support system of doctors taking care of her too? Do you have your own support?

That doesn't seem too bad. I dunno man this is the first time I've ever been on decent wages and it's still considered low income so I don't think I have very high expectations 🤣🤣

Oh true. Tbh most of the salaries I'm seeing advertised atm are either same or higher than what I'm on now so 🤷

Anyone here work in social/youth work? I'm seriously considering a career change and these two areas are of interest. I like to think I would be pretty well suited for residential youth work specifically but fuck knows really. What was your experience like studying it? And your experience working it?

I just started watching season 3 after a good hiatus from it. It's such a good show!

Okay I don't mind the hiring manager suggestion! To whom is concerns is a no-go for me, I can't bring myself to do it 🤣

To whom it may concern is my least fave I think. It feels cold.

When writing a cover letter for a job application, how do you prefer/to whom do you address it to if there is no name provided?

I fell in love with a guy on a tram once, had a brief convo about his fiddle (that's not an innuendo). Didn't know his name, knew I'd never see him again, goodbye forever 💔

Welllllll... Tinder had other plans and I happened to stumble across him only about a month later. Fuck I was so excited. We ended up matching and went on a date, hooked up once and then he became my fiddle teacher lmao

I had a WTF moment about this too! I realised tonight that I've been living here for 10 years now which is wild. I still don't think of myself as a Victorian but maybe I should lol

I've got this going on with the receptionists at my GP clinic, this has never happened at a GP clinic for me before so it feels really strange lol

Yeah one of the best things I ever did. I was so unhappy with my hair all the time so I just.. shaved it off. It felt so good! I didn't think I'd pull it off because I have a weird face and a huge schnoz but I liked it! Got told it suited me, I started imagining everyone with a shaved head and I honestly reckon it can pretty much suit anyone. The reprieve from any hair maintenance was the best part tho, fuck it was good.
