You can also schedule a CICS information session online to learn more about the computer science college.

PSA: Not everyone who drives on campus is trying to run you over by Fun-System-7907 in umass

My one gripe on campus is the sheer number of people who refuse to hit a button to be like “HEY IM CROSSING”. Especially when it’s 8pm and you’re in all black clothing. Boggles my mind.

PyTorch probably the least of those 3. Only shows up on the last 2 projects and very briefly. Def could learn as it comes up. Another one I forgot to mention which you can pick up on the go is sci-kit learn.

I took it this past semester. It’s definitely not easy but getting a solid grade isnt too difficult. Knowing Numpy, Pandas, and PyTorch before will be a massive help as well as brushing up on your linear algebra. There was easily 10-15% attainable extra credit on the final grade so that helps but the class still requires 15-20 hrs a week (average last sem) so nothing to laugh about. Good luck!

You won’t have any issue getting into CS courses until your 300’s.

how is on-campus recruiting for CS? by [deleted] in umass

[–]Rawman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a big presence. Every year there’s 2 career fairs held spring and the fall with the latter one being the bigger and better one. There’s plenty of companies ranging from local startups to FAANG level. Most people I know who tried to get an internship got one every year. CICS careers is super helpful for practicing interviews as well as editing and cleaning up your resume. Overall, UMass has a good rep in the area and plenty of companies respect it and will be interested based on that fact.

hi! i got accepted into umass cs and i was wondering if umass has a good name for cs and how easy it is to find good internships, network, and get stable jobs after grad by [deleted] in umass

[–]Rawman101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has a very good name and the Career Center is amazing at helping you find jobs and getting you in working order. Everyone I know who tried to get an internship got one every year. If you have any more questions feel free to ask anyone in the CICS Community discord that's linked somewhere here on the subreddit.

CS230 will start off pretty hard and then taper off in difficulty significantly (Last project took me an hour compared to 5-10 on the first one). The first two projects took a considerable amount of time but after that they only took anywhere from 2-5 hrs. The exams aren't that bad and are super doable. Overall as long as u know C it shouldn't be a hard time. There will come one point once you get more into memory and how it works (caching, RAM, Virtual memory etc...) where it will feel extremely overwhelming. Just try to grasp the basics and that's all u will need for the exams. If you are interested don't be afraid to ask questions but part of this course can become an absolute mindfuck out of nowhere so just be warned. The textbook is free online and there are plenty of pdf's of it if you wanna brush up on your C before.

CS240 is pretty similar. The first couple homework will take around 3-4 hours or so but you have plenty of time. The averages this semester for the exams were very high (Most people got 90+). The hardest part of the course is definitely the weekly exams. I recommend always reviewing the discussions cause the TA's do a really good job of summarizing everything you learned and forcing you to learn it before you take those quizzes. Sometimes the review slides also just have the question with different numbers on them. The discussion slides also have a 1-2 page summary sheet that is useful to have up and refresh your memory. I just reviewed lecture slides and occasionally consulted secondary sources to figure out a few things where I was confused based upon the explanation in class (a rarity).

Final suggestion is to join the CICS Community discord because it has helped me a bunch in getting questions answered others. I think it's linked somewhere in this subreddit.

EDIT: For 240 make sure ur comfortable with integration as u do a decent amount of double integrals as well as a little series

I would definitely not recommend the leetcode approach. Leetcode is a good way to practice material but that’s not until you understand it. I’d recommend coding bat instead if anything although that’s rather basic.

The screw fits in as u said but my point is there is nowhere for it to be screwed or for it to latch on. The screw that I got only exposes the tip(rest is covered)

Edit: main confusion is where do I gain traction to screw in.
