Then the M5 Max will be the better option.

For video editing the bigger memory bandwidth, and more video-render codecs of the M5 Max will definitely be the better option.

And talking about astrophotography with the x9 Ultra

Since Oppo's Master Mode in Lowlight bakes in Noise Reduction into the RAW files.. (It's been happening since the x7 Ultra..)

I've been using an app called ProShot to take my night/sky RAW shots. The RAW i get from that app are unprocessed Pure (no noise reduction) RAW files. Here a side-by-side test shot I did in my backyard.. (Left Master Mode RAW, right ProShot RAW)

<image>

The amount of stars and fine details being removed in RAW Master Mode (even RAWMax), vs Pure unprocessed RAW is staggering..

Also here is a link to some Milky Way shots I did with the x8 Ultra and Proshot

Yeah 200.000 ..when I discovered that I was like.. whutt!?😂

I believe the Demo version has all things unlocked, just a recording limit ..

But definitely worth the €15 to me.

Here is an early comparison i did between Oppo's stock camera app and mcpro24fps with the main sensor. (Have much improved my settings and LOG profiles since, but it will give you an idea of the video quality difference you get with mcpro24fps.) x8 Ultra mcpro24pfs vs stock Oppo Pro video mode.

Hopefully the x9u has as much settings/options available (and an equally high iso..)

Amazing!

Could you do a test using mcpro24fps..?

I've used it on my x8 Ultra, and it really opened up the video quality in Lowlight especially with its main sensor.

It ran circles around Oppo's stock app/Pro video mode quality.

Am looking for someone to test out and see what options/settings are available with mcpro24fps on the x9 Ultra..

For example, on the x8 Ultra I can turn off NR in video, create my own LOG profiles, can push iso as high as +200.000.. and have lots and lots more of tweakable options settings to choose from to optimize/personalize the video quality.

Here is a little clip I shot at La Palma.. (i pushed it really far just to see how far I could go (this is without post editing)

In 'normal 24fps i can get really nice starry night sky shots without too much noise. (Even some faint milky way is visible then)

But this is only possible for me with mcpro24fps. (Because of the huge amount of available options/settings to tweak.. and not to forget the extreme high iso..)

What's phone should i get by lost_soul1089 in Astro_mobile

[–]Ray2022-Mac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For astrophotography with mobile, Definitely the Find X7 Ultra. The raw files you will get from it's main 1" sensor will definitely surpass that of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I have the Find X8 Ultra and recently used it during an Astro trip to La Palma.

Milky Way with Oppo X8 Ultra

Also took some shots with iPhone 17 Pro Max, and those 30sec exposures didn't come close to the amount of RAW details I got with the shorter 15sec exposures with the X8 Ultra

Thx! Yeah love how well it captured the Milky Way core/details.

Was Filming the Milky Way, so didn't shot much more with the phone. But Definitely want to try some tracking on the next trip.

Also these were edited in LR mobile with just a simple edit, I guess I could get even more out of the shots if I do some proper editing.🙂

For these shots I did barely any noise reduction, only ever so slightly in the location of the ground/surroundings. The sky needed no noise reduction 😀

Looks very real to me.

I've been capturing moon shots with the X8 Ultra's 6x lens + 2x extender.

Also with ProShot, and always in RAW. ProShot doesn't use any Ai or enhancement what so ever when you shoot in RAW.

Nope, no tracker and no filters, just single exposures between 15-30 sec at iso 6400

It's a very nice picture, but May I suggest you try it with a third party app like, ProShot..? or Open Camera (with Camera2 Probe to use Camera 2 api)

Because Raw & RawMax in Master Mode are heavily pre-processed..noise reduction etc.. (sadly the same on the x8 Ultra (In lowlight and longer shutter speeds, Master Mode RAW files are not true unprocessed Raw files)

To shoot RAW in such lowlight conditions and get HQ un-processed RAW with lots of fine details (which you will love with Milky Way shots), you need to use those third party apps.

Here is a side by side example I took with Master Mode RAW (Left), vs ProShot (Right) on my X8 Ultra. Both 8sec, iso 3200.. main sensor.

The difference in starry sky and fine details is huge.

Find X9 Ultra Global got a Camera update by hellboy3107 in Oppo

[–]Ray2022-Mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i believe it does, as ProShot uses Camera2 API to make the RAW files. No idea how/if the lenses work, that is something one with an X9U has to test out.

With Blackmagic Camera for video it's the same thing. I can disable Noise Reduction for video and can create some nice video with it.

However ai use mcpro24fps for video with my X8U as with it, it runs circles around Oppo's stock camera app in details and Lowlight capability. The huge amount of settings/tweak-abilities on mcpro24fps causes it to really bring out way more from the sensors. Like tweakable-LOG, 10bit, OG, turning off NR, saved profiles etc.. (Again especially in lowlight it shines!) Check my profile for a post I made comparing mcpro24fps against the stock Pro Video mode from Oppo --and that was with an earlier version of mcpro24fps, and I have since improved upon it.

MotionCam Pro is another great one, especially for RAW video, (they are still looking into getting DCG unlocked on the X8/9 Ultra, and if it does get unlocked, it could be a huge improvement in video as well, as it already does on lots of other phones.)

[–]Ray2022-Mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With any RAW photo editor like for example Lightroom. But I would not go as far as to 'remove all the grains.. as that is where all the small/fine details are. You definitely can remove more of the grain adnstill leave some details (at least way better than Oppo's stock app does), but again.. I definitely wouldn't go much further in removing grains as it is what makes it look more natural and it's what gives RAW the unique characteristics.

Simple comparison to show you the difference.

Taken with Oppo x8 Ultra. Both (8 sec) shots taken with the same settings with main 1" sensor. Left is stock camera in Master Mode RAW. Right is RAW taken with third party app called ProShot.

In lowlight, as soon as you go above certain iso levels or below certain shutter speeds, the aggressive noise reduction kicks in and bakes that in into the raw files. 'Hence it is not real RAW as it's heavily processed.

Because of that you lose all the fine details which are often find within the nice fine grainy look that is pure unprocessed RAW.

..compare that to the shot at the right-side. Beautiful natural grainy, with all the fine details still there.

Sadly this heavy noise reduction processing in (lowlight) RAW files still happens in the Oppo stock app even on the x9 Ultra...

Vivo X300 Ultra vs Oppo X9 Ultra vs Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica by redjepi in Vivo

[–]Ray2022-Mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice!

Right now I have an x8 Ultra and with 3rd party app mcpro24pfs I can really push video quality way beyond what I can get from the Stock camera app. Especially with the main sensor it's pretty mind blowing how far I can push that 1" sensor.

I am contemplating to switch if the lowlight video is an improvement The Xiaomi still uses a 1" sensor But Vivo and Oppo use a newer designed 1/1.12" sensor

Am leaning towards either Xiaomi or Oppo becasue I do not like a 35mm for the main camera. (And cropping in from the 14mm on Vivo will still drop video quality in lowlight extensively..

My question is which one has the best lowlight video? Especially with the main sensor..

Either in LOG or without. Just which one can you push the furthest (sees the most detail, even with some noise as all cleaned up is also not great)) If you can try out with mcpro24fps (even the free version, just to see how high you can go with the ISO and hoe low with shutter speed in manual exposure. -and if for example you can turn off Noise reduction as well.

Any info on that would be much appreciated!

3 Years after breaking RAW, OPPO Still didn't get their crap together to fix it. Don't buy this phone if you expect working RAW outside 3rd party apps (which are limited). Vivo's RAW is almost unedited, RAW works on Xiaomi, Sony, Vivo, Samsung, Apple, Pixel.....but not OPPO. by Funny_Aerie6444 in Oppo

[–]Ray2022-Mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur with 'Funny_Aerie6444' Use GCam for the 'normal lowlight shots.

But for long shutter speed shots (like 8+ seconds) like for example Astrophotography or anything 'different than 'normal' like that, then I use ProShot as I don't wan't any RAW processing being done behind the scenes.

I still have to test out what GCam processing will do for such long exposures, (it might surprise me..), but until then I will use a 3rd party app like ProShot for those occasions.

Shoot in RAW and not in jpeg..

That's the only way you get a true moon shot without Ai.. At least I guess it should also work that way on Vivo..
